This qualitative study examined survey and interview data collected from tradespeople who transitioned to vocational technical (VT) teaching in regional vocational technical schools in Massachusetts. This study included two research questions that inquired about how tradespeople’s prior experiences, beliefs, and thoughts influenced or inspired them to pursue a transition to vocational technical (VT) teaching and about how their anticipated transitional experiences aligned with their actual transitional experiences. Educational Studies Dissertations

This qualitative study combined autoethnographic and phenomenological methods to examine a researcher-leader’s attempt to cultivate cognitive, relational, and emotional capacities through regular mindfulness practice, and how the cultivation of such capacities aligns with the enactment of leadership. The interrogation of lived experience and self-analysis was entered with the intention to better understand the promise of mindfulness as a resource for the development of educational leaders. Mindfulness And Law Enforcement: An Effective Approach To Implementing Mindfulness For First Responders, Gina White May 2017

Mindfulness And Law Enforcement: An Effective Approach To Implementing Mindfulness For First Responders, Gina White

Mindfulness Studies Theses

An increasing number of studies show that people employed as first responders in high trauma service jobs tend to experience a high level of stress, at work and after hours. Studies suggest that constant exposure to job related stress leads to both physical and mental dysregulation. This study looks at the effects of implementing mindfulness tools and techniques to those working in law enforcement. Other works on this topic report mindfulness as a successful tool to increase wellbeing to a broad spectrum of populations. The methodology used in this study was designed specifically for first responders. The data findings were …

Mindfulness: The Missing Piece In Addiction Treatment, Charity Collier May 2017

Mindfulness: The Missing Piece In Addiction Treatment, Charity Collier

Mindfulness Studies Theses

Mindfulness in addiction treatment is a young concept. Small samples of research and pilot programs show mindfulness is a positive approach to addiction treatment, but there is no concise theory as to how mindfulness should be implemented in addiction treatment. This research paper is designed to examine mindfulness in addiction treatment to aid in the success of sustained sobriety. Firsthand experience in addiction treatment as currently established, research of current mindfulness addiction treatment implementations, and qualitative interviews together suggest that mindfulness is a missing piece in addiction treatment.

Effects Of Mindfulness Based Teacher Training On Developing Teachers, Timothy Walsh

Mindfulness Studies Theses

Interest in the effects of mindful interventions in school settings continues to draw increasing interest. Mindful Fathering: An Investigation And Curriculum, Andrew Dobson

Mindfulness Studies Theses

This two-part paper explores the current state of fathering in the United States of America, and aims at highlighting the importance of active fatherly engagement in the lives of children. Statistics from the United States Census (2010) show that 29.5 percent of children under the age of 18 in the United States of America live in fatherless homes. When a father is engaged in the life of a child, developmental outcomes increase (Roopnarine, 2015). This signals a need to investigate solutions to this problem. Mindfulness is offered as a remedy, and mindfulness programs like Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and …

Silence For Children In A Fast-Paced, Nature-Deprived, And Digital World, Erin Sheehan

Mindfulness Studies Theses

The purpose of this paper is to explore the potential benefits of integrating mindfulness practice into family life based on the idea of the changing nature of modern childhood. This changing nature increases the need for mindfulness interventions and will be discussed based on three main themes: the increase in speed of life and subsequent stress, decrease in free-play and time spent in nature, and the inundation of digital influence and distraction. There will be a focus on the notion of silence as an important element of mindfulness practice. This paper will offer an initial understanding of these topics based …
