Peer learning services are an emerging trend in academic libraries of various sizes. These models allow students to engage and support the research needs of other students. These interactions may build off their classroom experiences and library training, while further developing their own research skills. This handout provides the context and questions for the roundtable discussion, “Casting Students in the Leading Role: Peer Learning in Academic Libraries,” at the ACRL 2019 conference. There are also resources for additional reading on the topic.

Any recent attendee at an academic library conference would likely note the large number of panels, posters, presentations, and roundtables that focus on libraries partnering and collaborating with other campus stakeholders, such as admissions, international student services, the writing center, and so on. Our library is no different.
Gettysburg College is a four-year liberal arts institution located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with an enrollment of 2,600 students. Cultivating Sustainable Library Publishing Services: Perspectives from a Range of Academic Libraries
Discover how three institutions - a liberal arts college, a comprehensive university, and a research university - provide library-led publishing services to their campuses. The panelists will share how their respective institutions have developed and aligned policies, infrastructure, staffing, outreach, and strategic partnerships in order to provide sustainable publishing services. This presentation will also explore the risks and rewards in establishing innovative library publishing services in ways that support institutional missions.

A Peer Research Mentor (PRM) program was developed at Musselman Library, Gettysburg College to augment traditional reference services and expand library outreach. Goals included enhancing these students’ information literacy skills helping them become better researchers, as well as sharing that knowledge with peers. This poster will highlight the initial and on-going training, their involvement at the reference desk, and outreach projects to date.
