The second part of the study throw light on the level of preparedness for mitigating different disasters, frequency of inspection of the equipment’s, safety guidelines and so on, to lessen the impact of disasters, basic strategies to protect any disaster in the library, frequency of …
Baby Boomers In Technology-Rich Environments: Using Piaac To Study The Association Of Workplace Learning With Technology Competency, Julie M. Galliart
Baby Boomers In Technology-Rich Environments: Using Piaac To Study The Association Of Workplace Learning With Technology Competency, Julie M. Galliart
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A skill gap in Problem Solving in Technology-Rich Environments (PS-TRE) between U.S. Baby Boomers and younger generations has been documented in previous studies using the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) Survey of Adult Skills (Rampey et al., 2016). Bringing this generation of workers up to speed in this competency area is important because older workers are a growing segment of the U.S. workforce with 13 million employees expected to be age 65 or older by 2024 (Toossi & Torpey, 2017). Workplace learning may be a solution, but few studies in adult learning document outcomes of training …
Attentional Control In Young Drivers: Does Training Help Or Hinder Bottom-Up Processing In A Dynamic Driving Environment?, Sarah Elizabeth Yahoodik
Attentional Control In Young Drivers: Does Training Help Or Hinder Bottom-Up Processing In A Dynamic Driving Environment?, Sarah Elizabeth Yahoodik
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
Anticipating hidden hazards on the road is a critical skill for safe driving, one that many young and novice drivers lack. Training programs are shown to improve hazard anticipation performance in young drivers, but whether these training effects persist in the presence of salient and potentially distracting stimuli remains relatively less explored. In this study, we examined whether the effectiveness of an existing driving training program, Risk Awareness Perception Training (RAPT), on increasing latent hazard anticipation on the road persisted with extraneous bottom-up stimuli in the road environment. Forty-one young drivers, aged 18-21, completed a series of driving scenarios with …

Agricultural Employees’ Use Of And Preferences For Educational And Training Opportunities, L.J. Mcelravy, Nathan W. Conner, Christopher T. Stripling, Jamie Loizzo
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
Educational and training opportunities provide individuals with many options when it comes to building their knowledge base. Both formal and informal educational opportunities are available in many different formats, including face-to-face and online delivery methods. The purpose of this study was to examine the type of education and training opportunities in which Nebraska agricultural employees participate and their satisfaction with different delivery formats. The specific objectives of this study were to determine 1) the type of education or training programs rural agricultural employees have participated in over the last two years, and 2) the differences between attitudes toward face-to-face versus …
The Need To Know Information For Ceds Within The First Month On The Job, Matt Benge, Rochelle Sapp
The Need To Know Information For Ceds Within The First Month On The Job, Matt Benge, Rochelle Sapp
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
County Extension Directors (CEDs) are Extension agents who serve their local clientele through educational programming, while also serving as liaisons between their state Extension system and their local government and elected officials. Responsibilities within this administrative role include handling and managing personnel issues, fiscal management and oversight, and communicating and maintaining relationships with elected officials. Researchers asked CEDs in Florida and Georgia with less than five years of experience the most important information for a new CED to know within the first month on the job. The constant comparative method of analysis was used to identify recurring themes from the …
Short-Term Loss, Long-Term Gain: Professional Development Of Graduate Assistants, V. William Balthrop
Short-Term Loss, Long-Term Gain: Professional Development Of Graduate Assistants, V. William Balthrop
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
While the pressures and willingness for graduate assistants to spend extensive amounts of time coaching undergraduate competitors are considerable, this essay argues that other elements of directing are essential for the student's professional development Among those are reduced student contact hours in actual coaching, and a greater opportunities for personnel and administrative responsibilities. Experience while still under supervision in these areas can be an important contributor to the student's professionalism and success in directing her or his own forensic program.
Training Forensic Graduate Assistants: A Development Course, Regina A. Kostoff, Suzanne M. Mckeever
Training Forensic Graduate Assistants: A Development Course, Regina A. Kostoff, Suzanne M. Mckeever
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
We have created a course which is geared towards helping the forensic graduate assistant. The focus of the course is the role of the individual events assistant; however, changes can made to adapt to an assistant who helps with a debate or combined forensics program. A suggested course outline is offered, as well as specific information and activities pertaining to the basic areas of study within the course. Following this, further suggestions and considerations offered.

Workshops: A Direct And Interactive Forum For Forensics Coaches/Judges, Valerie Swarts, Elighie Wilson
Workshops: A Direct And Interactive Forum For Forensics Coaches/Judges, Valerie Swarts, Elighie Wilson
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
Forensics is an educational function set in an educational environment While the obligations and concomitant responsibilities are many, forensics personnel preeminently are serving a teaching function ... (McBath, 1975, p. 47)
Most would agree with the assumption that forensics serves primarily a pedagogical function. Consequently, forensics personnel often utilize opportunities for professional growth by actively participating in professional associations and contributing to research in the field. The unique concerns and opportunities in forensics, however, present a need for a more direct and interactive forum, such as workshops for forensics personnel.
A search of the literature has revealed very little emphasis …
Some Answers To Popular Questions About The Use Of Workshops For Training Individual Events Coaches And Judges, Clark D. Olson
Some Answers To Popular Questions About The Use Of Workshops For Training Individual Events Coaches And Judges, Clark D. Olson
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
The judging of individual events is a difficult task. Perhaps it is exceeded in difficulty by instructing others how to perform this difficult task. The purpose of this paper is to outline the specifics for the use of workshops for training judges and coaches. It will seek to answer the five "Ws" regarding this important task.
Implications Of The Informal Training Of Coaches And Judges, Robert L. Davenport
Implications Of The Informal Training Of Coaches And Judges, Robert L. Davenport
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
This paper will support the thesis that more training of forensics coaches and judges, whether formal or informal, needs to take place in order to address many of the concerns of the forensic community in regard to inequities in coach/judge expertise and to philosophical inequities in the criteria for events by which coaches and judges fulfill their supervisory and evaluatory responsibilities in helping students become more effective communicators.

What I Think You Should Do Is..., Joel L. Hefling
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
If we conclude that veteran coaches and judges have had little or no formal training, and novice coaches and judges have had little or no formal training, then a number of implications begin to develop. For the sake of clarity, and to follow forensic conventions, let us examine several of those implications, first from the perspective of coaches, and then from the perspective of judges, and finally from the perspectives of the students. Then we may be able to draw some final conclusions for the forensic community as a whole.

Helping The Inexperienced Director, Alice J. Jaswal
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
This paper is not a research project or an experimental study. It is based on my own experiences, on discussions with I.E. directors who felt they lacked adequate training, and on discussions with "seasoned' directors who have aided new directors and new programs.
Solving For A Healthier Future: Creating National Standards For Training Future Directors Of Forensics, Thomas A. Workman
Solving For A Healthier Future: Creating National Standards For Training Future Directors Of Forensics, Thomas A. Workman
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
An important link has been made in current research between coach burnout and improper training of directors of forensics. Although the structure for such training is in place via the graduate programs of universities offering forensics, this arena has been underutilized. A competency-based model of training is presented utilizing both curricular and non-curricular methods. Six competency areas are established, with a call for national standards toward the development of future coaches by those programs with graduate assistantships in forensics.
Teaching And Coaching Individuals: The Use Of Learning Styles In Forensics Coaching, Thomas Bartl
Teaching And Coaching Individuals: The Use Of Learning Styles In Forensics Coaching, Thomas Bartl
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
When I ask myself how to approach the issue of training coaches in competitive speech and debate, I find myself posing a different question. It seems that before I can ascertain what could or should be done to train coaches effectively or to train effective coaches I need to know what it is these coaches are expected to do. The answer to this question must then determine what kind of training would be appropriate.
Helping Out The "Newbies": A Call For Broader-Based Professional Development In Forensics, Christopher J. Fenner
Helping Out The "Newbies": A Call For Broader-Based Professional Development In Forensics, Christopher J. Fenner
Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events
Many Directors of Forensics follow a clear path from student competitor to graduate coaching assistant before holding a professional position. Often this traditional route rep-resents the full training a future DOF may receive. While this experience is invaluable, as a primary means of education it does not account for those starting programs without such a background, or those taking on a director position at an institution with a significantly different emphasis or philosophy than encountered in their training. This paper posits that a focus on training & mentoring is needed at the national level in order to facilitate a broader …
Once More, With Feeling: A Case Study In Emotional Intelligence Testing Of Library Staff, Jennifer Wright
Once More, With Feeling: A Case Study In Emotional Intelligence Testing Of Library Staff, Jennifer Wright
South Carolina Libraries
Emotional intelligence is key to employee success, yet many libraries do not consider EI in training. 46 library staff completed the Emotify test and a survey assessing their performance. Staff in leadership roles tended to score higher and rate their EI knowledge higher. Staff with lower scores tended to assess the test as not useful. More EI training is needed for nonsupervisory staff, and library administrations should encourage EI training for all staff.

Rules, Roles, And Practices: Exploring School Social Worker Preparation For Practice, Kimberly M. Knox, Stacy Gherardi, Allison Stoner
International Journal of School Social Work
At present, there is significant variability in the United States in regards to pre-service education and licensing requirements for school social workers. Studies have suggested that this variability impacts practice and may limit perceptions of the profession. The state of New Mexico requires a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in order to practice as a school social worker but does not require any school-specific coursework, fieldwork, or training. This mixed-methods study describes findings from a survey of 84 school social workers in New Mexico which assessed perceptions of their preparation for practice. Quantitative survey items suggested that participants felt …

Self-Efficacy Among Christian Educators, Jonathan Blake Tolbert
Self-Efficacy Among Christian Educators, Jonathan Blake Tolbert
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Christian educators often lack specialized training in message delivery which leads to a lower self-efficacy. Christian educators devote their lives to fulfillment of the Great Commission; it is the job of the church universal to provide resources and support that equip the saints to boldly share the Gospel with great confidence. When self-efficacy is low, confidence is low. Theological foundations are often strong and well-developed by the local church. The practical aspect of preaching, meaning delivery, is an area that is underrepresented in academic research. This project presents specialized training in message delivery as a catalyst for improving self-efficacy. The …

Relationships Between Professional Development And Attitudes, Knowledge, And Skills In Play Therapy Among Counselors, Cynthia Ann Anderson
Relationships Between Professional Development And Attitudes, Knowledge, And Skills In Play Therapy Among Counselors, Cynthia Ann Anderson
Dissertations
Most counselors receive inadequate training in play therapy, through university counselor education programs, to counsel children using the method, which leaves novice counselors searching for workshops, institutes, conferences, or self-training to effectively meet the mental health needs of children with play therapy. In this first-of-its-kind study, the researcher investigated relationships between professional development and play therapy among working counselors and measured attitudes, knowledge and skills, and types of training in play therapy. A nonrandom sample of counselors were recruited from relevant online sources in this quantitative study. Attitudes, knowledge, and skills were measured by the self-reported Revised Play Therapy Attitude-Knowledge-Skills …
Aligning Cognitive Complexity Models: Bridging Development Across Educational And Supervisory Contexts, J. Scott Branson, Ashley N. Branson
Aligning Cognitive Complexity Models: Bridging Development Across Educational And Supervisory Contexts, J. Scott Branson, Ashley N. Branson
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
Cognitive complexity is a requisite skill for mental health professionals, as they routinely face complex, ambiguous tasks such as working within an evidence based practice framework in ways that bridge clients’ subjective experiences with relevant psychotherapeutic outcome research. Multiple models for conceptualizing and promoting cognitive complexity development in educational and supervisory settings have been articulated, and the similarities across these models is striking. The purpose of this article is to: 1) introduce readers to King and Kitchener’s (1994) Reflective Judgement model of educational development and 2) demonstrate the striking alignment between the Reflective Judgement model and prominent developmental models of …
Performance Management Training Evaluation In An Autism Treatment Facility, James D. Morrison
Performance Management Training Evaluation In An Autism Treatment Facility, James D. Morrison
Dissertations
The demand for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) has increased dramatically since 2010 (Burning Glass Technologies, 2019). A core component of a BCBA’s role is to provide supervision to Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA) and other paraprofessionals. Currently there is a lack of research on effective supervision training in the ABA literature. This study evaluated a supervision training program based on the Operant Model of Effective Supervision developed by Komaki (1986). The training developed for this study incorporated basic OBM concepts such as behavioral pinpointing, feedback, and goal setting as well as concepts such as work sampling, which the …
Understanding The Perceptions Of Supervision And Supervisory Behavior Of Patrol Precinct Patrol Supervisors In A Goal-Oriented Police Department, Jerry L. Garcia
Understanding The Perceptions Of Supervision And Supervisory Behavior Of Patrol Precinct Patrol Supervisors In A Goal-Oriented Police Department, Jerry L. Garcia
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
This research was focused on understanding the perceptions of patrol precinct Patrol Supervisors, within the New York City Police Department, as they relate to supervision of Police Officers in a goal-oriented police department, and whether there is a connection between this perception and a supervisors behavior.
In 1994, policing in the New York City Police Department had shifted to a predictive approach to law enforcement. Police Officers were now given performance objectives to achieve. Patrol Supervisors were given the responsibility to ensure that Police Officers met those objectives, and were held strictly accountable for it. Since accountability was now placed …
