© 2019 The Authors People vary in their capacity to learn and retain new motor skills. Although the relationship between neuronal oscillations in the beta frequency range (15–30 Hz) and motor behaviour is well established, the electrophysiological mechanisms underlying individual differences in motor learning are incompletely understood. Here, we investigated the degree to which measures of resting and movement-related beta power from sensorimotor cortex account for inter-individual differences in motor learning behaviour in the young and elderly. Twenty young (18–30 years) and twenty elderly (62–77 years) healthy adults were trained on a novel wrist flexion/extension tracking task and subsequently retested …

Ageing And Modernization Theory, Marie-Helene Thomas
Asian Review
Societies are moving towards a greying-nation at the fastest rate the world has ever seen with increasing numbers of centenarians each year. Current life-expectancy rates indicate that a person can expect to live 20 to 30 more years past the age of retirement. However, the modernization theory argues that the value of older people in society is decreasing with modernity and as a society moves away from tradition and towards a youth-oriented ideology, older people are left behind and deemed to be less important. Research is demonstrating that, with modernity, the concept of filial piety in Asian countries is declining, …

Vietnam Ageing Study Management Of Explosive Remnants Of War (More), Gichd
Global CWD Repository
Every conflict leaves behind explosive remnants of war (ERW) in lesser or greater quantities depending upon the nature and duration of the conflict and the types and quantities of weapons used. How ERW are dealt with reflects local circumstances and conditions, as well as the influence of international humanitarian law (IHL), the availability of resources and prioritisation choices made by governments, international institutions and agencies. In many cases an initial period of proactive effort is followed, sooner or later, by the adoption of more reactive policies and practices. The duration of the transition period varies from country to country, but …
