Interviewers’ Ratings Of Respondents’ Health: Predictors And Association With Mortality, Dana Garbarski, Nora Cate Schaeffer, Jennifer Dykema, Deborah Carr
Sociology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Objectives
Recent research indicates that survey interviewers’ ratings of respondents’ health (IRH) may provide supplementary health information about respondents in surveys of older adults. Although IRH is a potentially promising measure of health to include in surveys, our understanding of the factors contributing to IRH remains incomplete. Methods
We use data from the 2011 face-to-face wave of the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, a longitudinal study of older adults from the Wisconsin high school class of 1957 and their selected siblings. We first examine whether a range of factors predict IRH: respondents’ characteristics that interviewers learn about and observe as respondents answer …
An Exploratory Study Of Successful Advertising Internships: A Survey Based On Paired Data Of Interns And Employers, Pamela K. Morris, Seung-Chul Yoo
An Exploratory Study Of Successful Advertising Internships: A Survey Based On Paired Data Of Interns And Employers, Pamela K. Morris, Seung-Chul Yoo
Pamela K. Morris
As the job market becomes increasingly competitive, advertising educators must help students develop stronger skills, prepare for career positions and become more attractive to employers. Internships are a way for students to acquire critical real-world proficiencies and stand out in a job search. At the same time, employers benefit from and rely on internship programs, from learning new communication platforms to filling full-time positions. Using data from a field survey, this study provides a new understanding of the key elements and proposes a model for successful advertising internship programs. The investigation is unique, as the analysis pairs data from both …
Why Are Some Officers More Supportive Of Community Policing With Minorities Than Others?, Erin M. Kearns
Why Are Some Officers More Supportive Of Community Policing With Minorities Than Others?, Erin M. Kearns
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
Officers are not equally supportive of community policing despite its potential for improving police–citizen relationships. Research has yet to identify and explain variations in officer support for community policing with racial minorities. Using roll-call surveys with 741 officers in three departments, this project addressed two questions: Do officers differ in their support for community policing across racial groups? And, if so, why? Officers are less supportive of community policing with racial minorities and perceive greater social distance from minority groups. General support for community policing and lower perceived social distance from a minority community are linked with greater support for …

Geopoll - Integrate Cartographic Questions In Web Forms, Polls Or Surveys, Adrien Bigler, Olivier Ertz, Daniel Rappo, Sarah Composto, Florent Joerin, Maude Luggen Risse
Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) Conference Proceedings
Most of the web forms, polls or surveys are composed with classical input fields (check boxes, radio buttons, select lists, etc.) and a lot of standards web forms builders or services (e.g. Typeform, WuFoo, Google Forms, Survey Monkey, etc.) help to build and deploy them. Nowadays, offering a text area to catch a ZIP code or a select list to point out a country remains the best way to explicitly collect geospatial data. But what about mapping interfaces to integrate cartographic questions and/or cartographic answers as a more suitable solution? How to let form’s respondents indicate in which area(s) they …

Autonomous Vehicles: An Empirical Assessment Of Consumers’ Perceptions, Intended Adoption, And Impacts On Household Vehicle Ownership, Nikhil Menon
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Emerging automotive and transportation technologies have provided revolutionary possibilities in the way we might travel in the future. Major car manufacturers and technology giants have demonstrated significant progress in advancing and testing autonomous vehicles in real-life traffic conditions. Governmental agencies are grappling with how to plan transportation systems for a world with autonomous vehicles. Past research has shown that not all technologies are immediately welcomed by the public. Autonomous Vehicles would have to likely go through a similar phase, and would need to overcome not just technological challenges but also social barriers for successful penetration into the marketplace. Most previous …

Library Marketing On A Small Liberal Arts Campus: Assessing Communication Preferences, Julia Chance Gustafson, Zachary Sharrow, Gwen Short
Library Marketing On A Small Liberal Arts Campus: Assessing Communication Preferences, Julia Chance Gustafson, Zachary Sharrow, Gwen Short
All Faculty Articles
As part of a newly created library marketing plan, librarians at the College of Wooster undertook a study of the communication preferences of students, faculty, and staff in early 2015. The results of the survey helped to develop a comprehensive picture of what library resources and services these constituencies are interested in learning about, as well as when, where, and how they prefer to learn about them. This article describes the development, distribution, results, and analysis of the survey, and highlights the importance of campus-specific library marketing practices.

Mapping Community Space And Place In Mto Wa Mbu, Tanzania Through Surveys And Gis, Jessica Craigg
Georgia College Student Research Events
Cities throughout the African continent have been developing at an unprecedented pace, many of them due to the influence of the tourism industry. This is particularly true in Tanzania, a country famous for its national parks and their draw to tourists who help provide money for development. However, the only way to get the whole story on how to spend this money is through the experiences and needs of the people themselves. This study focuses on a small town in northeastern Tanzania, Mto wa Mbu, situated near Lake Manyara National Park, and its people’s perceptions of the park and community. …
