An activity often reserved for children, coloring books for adults rose from hipster trend to global phenomenon beginning in 2013. Adults flocked to the activity for a variety of reasons, including stress relief, socialization, a way to unplug from technology or even as a way to gain social status by appearing trendy. Participants reported enjoying the tactile, interactive nature of the books as a respite from constant screen time. Coloring books became big business for craft suppliers and bookstores by 2015. Coloring books shot to the top of the Best Sellers list on Amazon and were prominently displayed in book …

This space assessment study was conducted in the Ida Jane Dacus Library at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, from February 1 to May 1, 2015. For this study two methods were employed to collect data. Beginning on January 28, and occurring at least twice every weekday, library floor plans were utilized to record not only the number of students but also where in the library they were working/studying. The Daniel Library at The Citadel hosts library events throughout the year with the expectations that engaging with students will reduce library anxiety and will create a connection between the student and the library. This article seeks to examine whether or not these purposeful efforts to interact with college students in the library are successful. A survey was administered in order to measure the impact these events have on the students’ perception of the library and the librarians.

This survey was designed to ascertain how Tennessee public four-year academic libraries were addressing unaffiliated user access to services and resources and related security issues. At one point in time, resources and services were basically limited to the material on the shelf and the personnel employed by the library. Security issues were concerned with student pranks and vandalism and, depending upon location, the issue of vagrants and/or latchkey kids. Predicated on research demonstrating books requested through interlibrary loan that are purchased for the collection usually circulate more, cost less, and add value to the collection, Lupton Library’s Dean proposed this patron driven acquisition model. A Buy, not Borrow (BNB) pilot project was implemented at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Lupton Library in January 2010.

Since 2002, 97% of librarian jobs posted in American Libraries have required an American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree (2004). The ALA Committee on Accreditation provides a general framework for library master’s program curriculum, “through a variety of educational experiences, for the study of theory, principles, practice, and values necessary for the provision of service in libraries and information agencies and in other contexts.” (Accreditation, 2014). ALA curriculum requirements are broad, however, so courses and requirements within ALA degree granting institutions vary immensely from program to program.

This article examines the process of creating, from idea to implementation, a career resource center at the Georgia College and State University Library and Instructional Technology Center. This resource center consists of a collection of the latest sources of information on strategies for successful career matching and job searching, in addition to a computer with bookmarked websites for easy navigation of selected helpful websites and informative articles.
