Using the four dimensional frame that Hardy and Leiba-O’Sullivan (1998) developed to conceptually explore the “power behind empowerment” the study empirically illustrates how a police organization’s reform program, which was designed to empower lower level officers, foundered on its own innocence. The reform program adopts a resources dependency approach to power, which resonates with the first of the four dimensional frames of power; unobtrusive forms of power embedded at a deeper level of the organizations social system, which are consistent with the third and fourth dimensional frames, remain unaccounted for. Using The Delphi Technique To Search For Empirical Measures Of Local Planning Agency Power, Amal K. Ali

The Qualitative Report

This paper shows how the Delphi technique was used to conceptualize and operationalize local planning agency power. In the first of two Delphi studies, twelve scholars suggested four dimensions of agency power: legal authority, degree of control, relative autonomy, and capacity. In the second Delphi study, sixteen professional planners operationalized power dimensions proposed by the first Delphi study. The dimensions were operationalized in the context of Florida’s planning system. The proposed measures were tested empirically by reviewing Florida statutes, surveying municipal planning agencies, and conducting statistical analysis. There exist many misconceptions in choosing the t over the Wilcoxon Rank-Sum test when testing for shift. Examples are given in the following three groups: (1) false statement, (2) true premise, but false conclusion, and (3) true statement irrelevant in choosing between the t test and the Wilcoxon Rank Sum test.

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Previous research suggests that the power of the independent-samples t test decreases when population distributions are mixed normal rather than normal, and that robust methods have superior power under these conditions. However, under some conditions, the power for the independent-samples t test can be greater when the population distributions for the independent groups are mixed normal rather than normal. The implications of these results are discussed.

This article provides results for rates of correct identifications of paired-comparison information criteria and Tukey HSD as functions of the pattern of mean differences and of sample size. Therefore, the tables provided are useful for selecting sample sizes in real world applications.

In this article, the author argues that despite important differences between Critical Management Studies (CMS) and Organization Development (OD), there is enough common ground to make a dialogue worthwhile for both fields and for management practice. The author outlines some major "objectives" of each field, noting some important but frequently overlooked similarities and complementarities between them.
