This dissertation assesses Kenya’s capacity to effectively prepare and respond to oil spill incidents and compares it to recommended international practice. The study is based on analysis of available data and questionnaires administered to personnel involved in oil spill preparedness and response in Kenya as well as International Organizations involved in oil spill response and training. Globally sea borne trade has been increasing and this has reflected in Kenya where the country has embarked on expanding its shipping industry. This dissertation is a legal analysis of the National Logistics Strategy of Panama 2030 (NLSP) presented by the Logistics Cabinet of the Government of the Republic of Panama with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This dissertation aims to provide recommendations for addressing marine plastic litter in the ‘New Balis’ of Indonesia sustainably through technological interventions in the framework of the National Action Plan for Marine Litter Management 2018-2025. ‘New Balis’ are the 10 prioritized tourism destinations in Indonesia to be developed and promoted. The ‘New Balis’ development is a national strategic project to boost national income from tourism sector which have been directed by Indonesian President since 2015. This dissertation is a study of the experiences of successful SuPM from across the globe. A cross examination of single-use plastics (SuP) reveals that since 1950, it has become increasingly indispensable to modern society. The year 2013 marked the turning point in SuP life cycle, with global production amount to 299 MT, resulting to an increase of 3.9 percent, when compared to the 2012 statistics, and a 620 per cent increase compared to 1975 production rate. The dissertation is a study to improve Chinese maritime education and training (MET) for raising the performance of energy efficient ship operation, by analyzing the increasing demand on seafarers’ capacity and the barriers existing in the Chinese MET for energy efficient ship operation. Finally, a systematic framework of improvement measures was provided for Chinese MET. A brief review of the increasing demand on seafarers for energy efficient ship operation was carried out from four aspects including regulations, practices on board ships, alternative fuel and renewable energy sources.
