Government workers at New York’s Ellis Island have been accused of murdering ancestral names to serve their own purposes and prejudices. Despite zero evidence to support this accusation, the myth stubbornly persists. They did not change names. They worked from manifests, which were governed by law.

This book will examine the evolving role of American women in the military, contrasting the Vietnam experiences with those of the Persian Gulf War, and including the Panama, Libya, and Grenada military actions. Beginning with the historical tradition of women in the United States military, the study will focus on changes in American society brought about by the Women=s Rights Movement and America=s involvement in Vietnam and how both affected women in the military. ABSTRACT. Health science librarians experience challenges when partnering with people from other professional backgrounds such as nursing and with people of different ages. In partnering with people of other backgrounds,it is helpful to recognize the changing nature of research skills and the fact that many 21st century college students lack a print-based concept of research. Helping students to succeed in understanding and participating in the research process is more important than ever due to changes in the nursing profession, the sheer mass of scholarly information, and the challenges of searching for information on the world wide web.

South central Kentucky's Mammoth Cave System is by far the most extensive cave system on earth, and has been designated not only as an American National Park, but also by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve. Today’s University population looks very different from those in the past. Multiple cultures combine to make-up both student and faculty personnel. With this in mind the library and librarian's role to ensure quality service can take cues from five forms of literacy that reach well beyond information literacy. This poster will identify and discuss five facets of literacy in relation to the University international student: Information literacy, Reading literacy, Media literacy, Technology literacy, and Visual literacy.

Textbooks To The Shelf -- Making The Connection Faster, Deana Groves, Nelda Sims, Ellen Micheletti

The Educational Resources Center (ERC) at Western Kentucky University was searching for ways to shorten the processing time for its collection of textbooks for grades K-12. These textbooks are replaced on a regular rotation with new editions as they are published. The collaborative effort between ERC and the Bibliographic Access Unit streamlined the processing and greatly decreased the time between acquisition and availability to library patrons.
