In this study, we examine the effect of social network structure and information and communication technologies (ICT) use on performance attitudes of knowledge-intensive workers in dispersed occupational communities. We first develop a theoretical framework and use it to develop a valid and reliable survey instrument. Secondly, we apply structural hole measures (constraint and efficiency) for exploring the association with ICT use and attitudes to performance. Empirical results suggest that density of knowledge workers' professional network is positively associated with ICT use whereas network efficiency is negatively correlated with ICT use at both task and communication-structure level. The Nature Of ‘Reporter Voice' In A Vietnamese Hard News Story, V. T. H. Tran, Elizabeth Thomson

This chapter investigates the attitude of the reporter in an article about Iraq war published in a newspaper in Vietnam, the Nhan Dan Daily. Appraisal theory, especially attitude and engagement, is used as the tools of analysis to explore the reporter’s opinions and ideological positioning expressed in the article. The analysis reveals the reporter’s negative attitude towards US government as well as the strategies used to engage other parties in support of the reporter’s point of view.

Segmentation has been widely studied in tourism research e.g. Dolnicar (2004). Dawley (2006) points that commonly used segmentation variables such as demographics lead to identifiable segments which are not actionable while other useful approaches e.g. psychographics, are actionable but not identifiable. The objective of this paper is to develop a two-stage linkage approach to segmentation whereby cluster analysis using psychographic variables is conducted within demographic group. Demographic groups are selected based on propensity to travel.
