Unintentional Fatal Overdoses And Prior Incarceration, Amy Donley Phd, Alexandria Mcclarty Ba

This report shares analysis of unintentional fatal overdose victims from 2018-2022 in Orange County, Florida who had been incarcerated in the Orange County Jail at least once in the 365 days prior to their death. Specifically, this report examines the number of times the victim had been incarcerated in their lifetime in the jail and if they had flags in their files for mental health, persistent mental health, substance abuse, and/or detoxification. Data for this analysis were provided by Orange County Corrections and the Orange County Medical Examiner.

This workflow is used for the University of Central Florida Libraries’ deaccession project to batch withdraw single and/or multiple items and volumes in records in Ex Libris’ Library Management System, Alma. It comprises several parts, including creating to-be-withdrawn list and considering different scenarios, batch withdrawing items in Alma, batch updating the MARC 996 field used for local statistics in the bibliographic records, creating the batch import profile, importing the updated records, unlinking bibliographic records from the Network Zone, and copying all the 035 fields (OCLC number) for Connexion update. Food Insecurity is often overlooked by those who are fortunate enough to afford and sustain an abundance of products for themselves and their family. Despite lack of awareness, there are programs such as the "Membership Share Grocery Program" by United Against Poverty that seek to alleviate this problem. The program utilizes donated goods and sells the products based only on their shipping costs. Program Membership requires a family income that is below the Area Median Income to gain access to the discounted prices. Definitions and terminologies are paramount for operationalizing the community-wide effort against intimate partner violence (IPV). However, definitions and terms that do not reflect reality are of little use. This is particularly true in IPV coordinated community responses that attempt to harmonize data collection and legal apparatuses at the federal, state, and local levels. This talk discusses the deaccession project at the University of Central Florida Libraries from the perspective of Technical Service. It first provided the project background and scope, preparation for deaccession, and different workflows tested for the project. It then focuses on a mixed approach with manual and batch withdrawals to meet the library’s needs. It also addresses considerations in adopting a workflow for a collection or a set. Finally, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the batch withdraw workflow and the next steps that can be taken.

Recorded usability tests, with participants completing multiple tasks, often result in lengthy videos packed with details. The raw observations and data need to be interpreted and contextualized to translate them into real-world improvements for your users. This article describes a study with recorded sessions and how the authors interpreted the findings to inform a variety of changes in their library and discovery service.

This report aims to analyze yearly trends in unintentional fatal overdoses in Orange County, FL. Like many other parts of the country, the Central Florida area continues to suffer from a high number of overdose mortalities. As such, this report analyzes unintentional fatal overdoses across the years 2018-2022, focusing on the variables of sex, race, age, drug toxicology, victim residency information, and death location to draw conclusions on Orange County’s overdose climate and identify any changes over time. Previous investigations into trends in Library and Information Science (LIS) literature have revealed changes in the topics librarians publish on over time, with older studies highlighting classification and indexing, and information retrieval and more recent studies highlighting keywords such as internet, information technology, digital libraries, and again, information retrieval. No similar investigation has been conducted on current publication trends by health sciences librarians. This study analyzes the top themes on which health sciences librarians published from 2016 to 2020 by examining the frequency of keywords. Working with Digital Initiatives, digital humanities and history faculty members, the Metadata Librarian at the University of Central Florida Libraries has added Linked Open Data (LOD) to Ex Libris’ Alma for the PRINT Migration Network: Pemberton Correspondence Collection. Wikidata entries on people and places in this collection are created and their Uris are linked to the cataloging records. Meanwhile, Library of Congress (LC) linked open data vocabularies, such as LC Subject Headings, LC Name entities, FAST headings and genre headings are also added to the records. The outbreak of COVID-19 added an increased sense of urgency to creating accessible online materials for higher education professionals, including academic librarians, as they explored new ways to engage with users online. Librarians who relied on in-person sessions to provide information literacy instruction to students shifted to synchronous and asynchronous instruction methods. In Whole Person Librarianship: A Social Work Approach to Patron Services (2019), Zettervall and Nienow aptly refer to librarianship and social work as ‘sister professions’, highlighting their gendered histories and similar professional values. Both librarianship and social work emerged as service-oriented, female-dominated professions in the late nineteenth century. Questions about professional identity have concerned librarians and social workers since those early days, with scholars and practitioners in both fields examining markers of professionalism, such as training, associations, and values. The University of Central Florida's Institute for Social and Behavioral Science (ISBS) partnered with Volusia County to undertake a gap analysis focused on mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Specifically, we designed a study to determine the capacity of treatment options, identify barriers to seeking treatment, and illuminate what works particularly well. The gap analysis results can guide future decisions on allocating resources best to ensure that treatment is accessible to all in need.

With equity, diversity, and inclusion in mind, and to improve access to the juvenile biographies in the University of Central Florida Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) Library, librarians from cataloging, CMC and ILL, analyzed 952 bibliographic records and enhanced subject headings with biographees' gender, race, nationality and other information. Statistics were compiled to measure subject headings for biases and inequalities. Local subjects, LCSH, LC Demographic Group Terms and Homosaurus terms were added to aid students to discover materials for the diverse population they will teach.
