In recent years, the need for racial reconciliation within the American Church has become increasingly apparent. In order to move toward justice and promote diversity, however, White Americans must first develop a greater understanding of the Black struggle for equality and equity, which has been largely shaped by liberation theology. James H. Cone, known as the Founder of Black Liberation Theology, has authored many books on this topic, but his works lack the understanding and attention they merit in predominantly White circles. An Analysis Of Pollution In Liverpool, Uk, Luke W. Lawson

Within this experiment the different levels of pollution in areas around Liverpool were tested. These areas were Stanley Park, Lunt Meadows, and Woolton Road. At Stanley Park one of two transects had a geochemical analysis as well as magnetic measurements run to investigate source attribution within the urban environment resulting in data showing high variability in soil properties among the transect. With data supporting evidence of diamagnetic, paramagnetic, and ferromagnetic properties in soil along the same transect. At Lunt Meadows, through the use of XRF for soil samples and nitrate and phosphate testing for water samples, it was found that …

Television has served as a force of socialization for multiple generations of Americans. Many believe that media portrayal is playing a role in the shift of the idea of family. Overall, it is believed that media has portrayed families from traditional households, with two parents and their children, with each parent subscribing to traditional gender roles. Has this remained true over time, and how do reality television families compare to fictional, sitcom television families?

Stressin' Me Out: A Comparison Of Stress Levels In College Student-Athletes And Non-Student-Athletes, Tag Pacot, Samantha Watson, Emorie Knox, Laney Mears

We investigated whether stress levels differed between college student-athletes and regular students. Participants filled out background information, such as age, ethnicity, classification, and student-athlete status. They then filled out a questionnaire to obtain a raw stress score intended to evaluate stress levels. Student-athletes and regular students showed little difference in stress levels. These results indicate that, although student-athletes and regular students share different demands in their everyday lives, both are impacted equally by stress. These results may impact the treatment and attention to the prevalence of stress for all collegiate students.

Effects Fidget Toys Have On Focus, Grace E. Renois, Reyna Rogers, Morgan Cobb

In the current study, we investigated how college students’ levels of focus were affected by fidget toys. Participants’ took two 10-question math assessments and watched a 5-minute video in between them. 46 people received a fidget toy to play with during the second math assessment, and 46 people did not receive a fidget toy. Observers rated participants on off-task behaviors through a coded system called the RRC System on a scale of 1 to 5. College students’ were shown to have an increased on-task behavior and the grades of the math assessment with the fidget toy rather than without it.

Through many years juvenile delinquency has been something that tends to radar and becomes less relevant in the criminal justice world. Though there has been a substantial amount of research in juvenile prevention efforts as well as locating the highest number of offenders based on racial background. My research explores the difference in characteristics among different racial offenders as well as why specific races are more present in corrections.

Learning Styles And Gender: How They Influence Academic Performance, Keilee Holcomb, Katie Cofer, Emily Adams, Graceann Covington

The current study examined whether biological sex and learning style had an influence on a student’s academic performance. The participants were asked to take a nineteen-question survey. This survey included sixteen questions from the VARK questionnaire. Three additional questions were added asked for the participant’s age, biological sex, and grade-point average (GPA). The answers were recorded anonymously. These answers were then entered into the VARK questionnaire to determine the participant’s learning style. The results revealed no main effects or interactions. These results are important to studies of academic performance and what aspects can influence it.

The Link Between Intellectual Disability And Juvenile Delinquency, Scarlet Bates

The correlation between intellectual disability and juvenile delinquency is striking. Across the globe we see a higher number of offenders with an intellectual disability. Youths with intellectual disabilities may be more likely to engage in delinquent behavior. Early identification and intervention for intellectual disabilities, along with support for social and emotional development, could be crucial in reducing the likelihood of juvenile delinquency.

Liberating The Woman: Feminism In Korean Dramas, Emma Mackey

In my ventures throughout Korean dramas, or k-dramas as they are less formally known, I’ve noticed how poorly many of the female characters are treated in their romantic relationships, depictions of violence being glorified as something the male characters are doing out of love rather than selfishness. These abusive behaviors have waned out of popularity in recent years, though there are still underlying elements of patriarchal values in modern k-dramas, the female characters having to adhere to strict societal standards like chastity, modesty, beauty, and so on to be deemed worthy of a man’s love. Humanly speaking, besides a few of the disciples, Jesus's closest friends were undoubtedly Mary, Martha and Lazarus. They were like family, and their house in Bethany was a place of safety and refuge.

One day the sisters sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was extremely sick and about to die. After a two-day delay Jesus began his four-day journey to Bethany. I don't always know what to make of God's delays, but I'm convinced they don't mean he doesn't love us. We hope for a greater purpose.

The worst happens, Lazarus dies.

As we recognize Women’s History Month this March, we’re remembering some of the notable women in Ouachita’s history. Estelle McMillan Blake was an original faculty member of Ouachita Baptist College when its doors opened in 1886. Blake taught English at Ouachita for 53 years. Because of her support of the school’s library, the former Blake Library on campus was named for her in the 1930s. The Arkansas Baptist paper once noted about this beloved faculty member, “every student that has known her has created in his heart an undying love for this great Christian character and teacher.” The following is …

Dr. Wesley Kluck did not have a restful 2020. As university physician and vice president for student development at Ouachita, he led the university’s health efforts in response to COVID-19, chairing Ouachita’s Health Monitoring and Action Team (HMAT).
