Better Pleasing The Court: How The American Collegiate Moot Court Association Can Improve Its Competition, Alan R. Gray Jr.
Better Pleasing The Court: How The American Collegiate Moot Court Association Can Improve Its Competition, Alan R. Gray Jr.
National Forensic Journal
The American Collegiate Moot Court Association strives to educate undergraduates about the American legal system through participation in moot court, a simulated oral argument before an appellate court. Its competition structure, however, suffers from defects that undermine the educational value of the event. This article argues that the ACMCA ought to adopt certain reforms in its operational structure, including geographically locking its regional competitions, abandoning its practice of power-matching preliminary rounds, and rewriting its judging ballot. These goals would not only enhance the quality of the legal education received by its participants, but improve students’ forensic learning experience as well.

Batchloading Serials And Other E-Resources: An Introductory Workshop, Bonnie Parks
OLAC Conferences
Electronic resources are now a key component of many libraries. We have long known that catalog records for individual resources facilitate discovery and access. However, as libraries continue to increase their acquisition of electronic resources by purchasing packages of serials, ebooks, and streaming media content, cataloging individual titles isn’t always a possibility. Instead, libraries often rely upon outside sources for their MARC records and load records in large sets. This workshop introduces those new to batch record loading to some practical tools and workflow strategies to manage their records more effectively. Topics covered include: what to look for in vendor …

You've found yourself playing a leadership role in cataloging, or would like to pursue a leadership role. Many of us come to this point in our careers because we've been good catalogers -- we know our subject area, we're on top of the standards. But much of our cataloging training is focused on the work itself, and not on management on a macroscale. What are the issues managers of cataloging departments face?
Our workshop will help you think about these issues, and give you practical advice and tips to take home and use, whether you are a newbie or experienced …

The 2006-2007 task force was charged with creating a set of best practices for coding MARC 008/lang and 041 language information for videos, especially DVDs, and with using that exercise to examine whether any changes could be made to the MARC21 format (coding or directions) that would improve access to the multiple types of language information found on videos. The work of that task force resulted in a number of changes to the MARC format, which are described in appendix 1. This current document, completed by the 2012 task force, provides guidance for coding video language information using the current …
