Ben Bagdikian (1920-2016) graduated from Clark University in 1941 before becoming a journalist. He reported on prisons, poverty and civil rights and won the Pulitzer Prize. While Bagdikian was an editor at The Washington Post, Daniel Ellsberg gave him a top-secret history of the Vietnam War, The Pentagon Papers. Bagdikian gave a copy to a senator who read them into the Congressional Record. These papers include speeches and articles and research materials and manuscripts for his books, Media Monopoly, Double Vision, In the Midst of Plenty, Caged, and The Memoir of Lydia Bagdikian.

Saul B. Cohen was a Professor of Geography and Director of the Graduate School of Geography from 1965 to 1979. The papers reflect the wide range of his activities during that time. They provide information about his leadership of the Graduate School of Geography and Clark University affairs. Also discussed are his scholarship, participation in the American Geographical Society and the Association of American Geographers, and contributions to programs to improve geographical instruction.

John Kirtland Wright, 1891-1969, was a former librarian, director, and chronicler of the American Geographical Society. He attended Harvard where his father was Dean of the Graduate School, and received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees there. After his return from World War I he became librarian of the American Geographical Society. Wright became the Society’s Director in 1938 where he remained until his retirement in 1956. He received an Honorary Degree from Clark University in 1967. Clark University Archives received these papers after his death from his family at the instigation of William A. Koelsch.
