by
Eileen Kane
The University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, 2020
Under the Supervision of Dr. Julia Snethen
Background: Social support is a factor in the health and well-being of all populations (WHO, 2018). Having a loved one with SUD negatively affects family members. Affected Family Members (AFM) providing support for the individual with ISUD, are at risk of losing their social support network. Losing social support negatively influences AFMs health and well-being. The purpose of this study was to explore the affected family member (AFM) of an individual with a …
Factors Affecting Blood Pressure Target Outcomes For Veterans Using Home Telehealth, Vincent Boom
Factors Affecting Blood Pressure Target Outcomes For Veterans Using Home Telehealth, Vincent Boom
Theses and Dissertations
Hypertension is the most common diagnosis among Veterans, contributing to approximately 15,000 veterans hospitalized for stroke every year. The high prevalence of hypertension found in the Veteran population suggests a need to better define the risks and benefits associated with the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. The U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) home telehealth program provides chronic care management for hypertension to facilitate Veteran access to care. Existing evidence suggests Veterans’ monitoring of blood pressure at home may selectively assist in managing hypertension. This secondary analysis of data used a self-management lens to assign meaning to traditionally demographic …
Comparing Self-Disclosures And Disclosures Of Co-Owned Private Relationship Information (Copri) In The Workplace: Comfort, Frequencies, And Motivations For Disclosing, Emily Anne Mueller
Comparing Self-Disclosures And Disclosures Of Co-Owned Private Relationship Information (Copri) In The Workplace: Comfort, Frequencies, And Motivations For Disclosing, Emily Anne Mueller
Theses and Dissertations
Individuals self-disclose (SD) private information to increase intimacy, build trust, and to give or receive social support. When private information is self-disclosed and shared between two people, it is co-owned. For individuals in romantic relationships their private information and co-owned private relationship information (COPRI) is shared in displaced contexts. One context in which such disclosures can be studied is the workplace, where differences in these two types of disclosures can be compared. A sample of 308 individuals was surveyed to compare differences between SDs and disclosures of COPRI in relation to comfort disclosing, disclosure frequency, motivations for disclosing. Additionally, comparisons …

Navigating The Noise: An Examination Of The Relationship Between Introversion, Family Communication Patterns, Family Satisfaction, And Social Self-Efficacy, Kristine Nicolini
Navigating The Noise: An Examination Of The Relationship Between Introversion, Family Communication Patterns, Family Satisfaction, And Social Self-Efficacy, Kristine Nicolini
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines how introversion, family communication patterns (FCP), and modified communication behaviors relate to perceived levels of social self-efficacy and family satisfaction. Participants (N = 359) were undergraduate students at a large Midwestern urban university. The proposed causal model suggests conversation and conformity levels within a FCP impact whether families employ facilitative or inhibitive communication modification behaviors in interactions with an introverted family member. An Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method of estimation was used to test the causal model through a comparison of the expected and actual correlation matrix. The results indicated the data were consistent with the proposed …
Parent-Child Communication About Marriage And The Displacement Of Marital Myths, Jennifer Anne Jackl
Parent-Child Communication About Marriage And The Displacement Of Marital Myths, Jennifer Anne Jackl
Theses and Dissertations
Marriage and divorce are common in the U.S. today, and the question of "why is the divorce rate so high?" lingers in popular culture. The purpose of this study is to examine the need for parent-child communication about marriage to determine if it can help to dispel marital myths that abound in U.S. society. This study takes a qualitative approach to the communication between parents and their children about the topic of marriage. Three research questions are asked regarding what messages were transmitted between parents and their (now adult) children about marriage, how accurate the children perceive these messages to …
