NOTE: A revised and updated version of this presentation was given at the 2014 United States Electronic Theses and Dissertations Association annual conference in Orlando FL in September 2014. Since 2008 EIU has been digitizing ETDs and making them available via the library catalog, I-Share (the state of IL consortia catalog), and WorldCat. It was only after ETDs were included in the institutional repository (The Keep) that the majority of faculty became fully aware of how accessible these theses had become. Since its creation in 2004, GIL Express has attempted to supplement traditional ILL services by providing a faster avenue for patrons to request and receive books. However, operating similar services from two different departments can lead to confusion for patrons and headaches for staff. For this project, we will analyze the methods employed by other schools in the USG system to improve the coordination of GIL Express and ILL services. We will present our findings as well as evaluate alternative solutions to streamline the process for both patrons and staff.
