The focus of this workshop is the often overlooked day-to-day wearing down of people in oppressed groups as recipients of microaggressions. While most who are sympathetic to this problem know what a microaggression is, faculty, staff and students tend to fear addressing such aggressions. They simply may not know how to do so effectively. In this hands-on workshop participants will grapple with specific scenarios and be invited to try out different communicative responses and other tools to work toward creating a more inclusive climate for all. This presentation summarizes two components of a Title V grant being implemented at Hostos Community College. The two components highlighted are: (1) the capstone initiative and (2) the student research with faculty initiative. Our implementation processes have been influenced in part by AAC&U's High Impact Practices work and philosophy. Our work with Hostos faculty has helped us define capstone learning at the community college level and supported student engagement in authentic research activities.

On June 1, 2015, The University of Iowa (UI) Libraries with the support of the UI provost, launched the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio. The Studio maintains a physical presence in the UI Main Library and was created by merging the Libraries-operated Digital Research and Publishing department with the campus-operated center called the Digital Studio for Public Arts and Humanities. With nearly a dozen full-funded staff positions, the Studio represents a remarkable commitment of institutional resources to the growth and development of digital scholarship.
