My research used data available in the public domain to establish racial/ethnic inequality in pay and rank in the Social Science faculty and the Medical School in a university in Southwestern Ontario. I specifically focused on the faculty of Social Science and Medicine and Dentistry School as they are among the biggest faculties on campus. I retrieved faculty information from information available to the public and used this to determine salary, race, gender, rank, and tenure status (if applicable). Visible minorities were paid lower in the faculty of Social Science compared to their white counterparts. However, in the Medical School, …

This research project is a case study concerned with how the practice of Rotational Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) function within Rabat, Morocco. Research was guided by the following questions: Why is this form of money management utilized? Who is the typical participant in ROSCAs? What sort of purchases are financed through this practice? And what does the changing popularity of ROSCAs mean for future generations? In today’s America the persistence of crushing poverty in the midst of staggering affluence no longer incites the righteous jeremiads it once did. Resigned acceptance of this paradox is fueled by a sense that poverty lies beyond the moral and technical scope of government remediation. The failure of experts to reach agreement on the causes of poverty merely exacerbates our despair. Are the causes internal to the poor – reflecting their more or less voluntary choices?
