The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

"Policies Of Nature And Vegetables": Hugh Anderson, The Georgia Experiment, And The Political Use Of Natural Philosophy, Mart A. Stewart

In 1737, Hugh Anderson, a Scottish "gentleman" of "liberal education" who had come to the new colony of Georgia with his family two years earlier, joined his voice to those already complaining to the colony's governing body. In so doing, he also attacked the Trustees' plan for the colony and their land and labor regulations. Correspondence was the common medium in the eighteenth century for communication, for the diffusion of information, and for establishing, reinforcing, or questioning social, political, and economic relationships. Like the other colonists, Hugh Anderson used the letter of petition as a medium of protest. But Anderson's …

This thesis chronicles the development of Henderson and its media. Unlike most pioneering towns that sprung up west of the Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains during the 18th century, Henderson assumed a unique position in the development of the Midwest as an important and major tobacco port, as an agricultural conduit to the North and industrial path to the South. and as an outpost of trade to the West. A clearer picture of its aggressive nature becomes evident by tracing the hard-fought beginnings of the region. As Henderson grew in importance, so did its lust grow for excitement and entertainment. I is for Iowa is a historically based alphabet book written for the purpose of introducing young children to facts about the state of Iowa. Each alphabet letter presents a geographical feature or location, a past personality, an industry, a designated state symbol or a significant historical event. The text is written for the comprehension of six to ten year old children. The words and pictures work together to highlight historical facts which are representative of the state's diversity and heritage. The Strange Career Of Thomas Jefferson: Race And Slavery In American Memory, Edward L. Ayers, Scot A. French

Jefferson's life has come to symbolize America's struggle with racial inequality, his successes and failures mirroring those of his nation. The quest for a more honest and inclusive rendering of the American past has placed a heavy burden on Jefferson and his slaves. Generation after generation of Americans has sought some kind of moral symmetry at Monticello, some kind of reconciliation between slavery and freedom, black and white, past injustice and present compensation.
