The City of College Station has proposed the Victoria Avenue Improvements project where roadway improvements will be constructed in southern College Station, Brazos County, Texas. The project engineer, Jones & Carter, Inc, retained Terracon Consultants, Inc. to conduct a systematic, intensive pedestrian survey of the approximate 6.2-acre project area. Because the City of College Station, a political subdivision of the State of Texas, sponsored the project, the proposed undertaking is subject to compliance with the Antiquities Code of Texas and oversight from the Texas Historical Commission. An archaeological survey of the proposed 78 acre (32 hectares) City of Bryan’s Eastside Facility Project, in Brazos County, Texas was performed by Ed Baxter, Consulting in May of 2019. Edward P. Baxter was the Principal Investigator and the Project Archaeologist. The survey took a total of three man days in the field. This study was performed under Texas Antiquities Committee Permit Number 8903. The project area was investigated using the pedestrian survey method supported by shovel testing. No previously recorded archaeological sites or cemeteries were found in the project area. The survey found no new archaeological sites. Copies of …

The City of College Station contracted HDR, Inc. (HDR) to conduct a cultural resources survey for proposed improvements to the pedestrian walkways along University Drive in the City of College Station, Brazos County, Texas. The primary purpose of this project is to improve and enhance pedestrian facilities along University Drive from College Main to 700 feet (ft) east of College Avenue (2,871 linear ft, 0.544 mile). The improvements include new traffic signals, sidewalks, turn lanes, drainage and utility adjustments, and hardscaping. September 5-7, 2017, Blanton & Associates conducted an intensive archeological survey of the proposed storm water improvements Tasks 1 and 2 on behalf of Texas A&M University System in central Brazos County, Texas. The total area of potential effects for the proposed project is approximately 51.4 acres (20.8 hectares) in size and maximum depth of impacts from the proposed project will be 10 feet below the current ground surface. Archaeological test excavations were performed by a crew from the Bryan District under the direction of John W. Clark, Jr., assisted by William Weaver, at the historical archaeological site 41 BZ89 on the 12th of October 1992 and on the 10th of March, 1993. The excavations revealed a highly predictable horizontal distribution of artifacts over the site conforming to the Brunswick artifact pattern (South 1977: 47-80). They indicate an occupation apparently beginning in the late 1880s and extending into the 1950s (the 1950s occupation may represent reuse by hunters or a campsite for stock handlers). Archaeological test excavations were performed at the historical archaeological site 41BZ89 on the 12th of October 1992. The excavations revealed a highly predictable horizontal distribution of artifacts over the site. They indicate an occupation beginning, apparently in the late 1880s extending into the 1950s (the 1950s occupation may represent reuse by hunters or a campsite for stock handlers). At least two building phases are evident in the structures. Preliminary archival investigations suggest that the property was occupied by a family named Foster at the time of the construction of the residence. Site 41BZ87 is a prehistoric site situated on a low knoll above Thompson Creek in western Brazos County. It is within the approximately 6 ft. wide right-of-way of the future alignment of S.H. 47. Phase II arch~ logical testing was begun by the author in August, 1992, to determine the site's eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Hist4 · c Places (in accordance with 36 CFR, Part 800) and assess its potential for State Landmark status.
