A Generalized Family Of Lifetime Distributions And Survival Models, Mahmoud Aldeni, Felix Famoye, Carl Lee Jul 2020

A Generalized Family Of Lifetime Distributions And Survival Models, Mahmoud Aldeni, Felix Famoye, Carl Lee

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

In lifetime data, the hazard function is a common technique for describing the characteristics of lifetime distribution. Monotone increasing or decreasing, and unimodal are relatively simple hazard function shapes, which can be modeled by many parametric lifetime distributions. However, fewer distributions are capable of modeling diverse and more complicated shapes such as N-shaped, reflected N-shaped, W-shaped, and M-shaped hazard rate functions. A generalized family of lifetime distributions, the uniform-R{generalized lambda} (U-R{GL}) are introduced and the corresponding survival models are derived, and applied to two lifetime data sets. The survival model is applied to a right censored lifetime data set.

A New Lifetime Distribution For Series System: Model, Properties And Application, Adil Rashid, Zahooor Ahmad, T R. Jan Jun 2018

A New Lifetime Distribution For Series System: Model, Properties And Application, Adil Rashid, Zahooor Ahmad, T R. Jan

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A new lifetime distribution for modeling system lifetime in series setting is proposed that embodies most of the compound lifetime distribution. The reliability analysis of parent and of sub-models has also been discussed. Various mathematical properties that include moment generating function, moments, and order statistics have been obtained. The newly-proposed distribution has a flexible density function; more importantly its hazard rate function can take up different shapes such as bathtub, upside down bathtub, increasing, and decreasing shapes. The unknown parameters of the proposed generalized family have been estimated through MLE technique. The strength and usefulness of the proposed family was …

Semi Parametric Estimation Of Some Reliability Measures Of Geometric Distribution, Mathachan Pathiyil, E.S. Jeevanand Nov 2007

Semi Parametric Estimation Of Some Reliability Measures Of Geometric Distribution, Mathachan Pathiyil, E.S. Jeevanand

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Semi parametric estimators of the survival function, the hazard function, and the mean residual life function of geometric distribution using uncensored and Type II censored samples are obtained. The accuracy of the estimators so obtained is investigated empirically using simulated samples. The results are applied to a real life data set for illustration.

On The Properties Of Beta-Gamma Distribution, Lingji Kong, Carl Lee, J.H. Sepanski May 2007

On The Properties Of Beta-Gamma Distribution, Lingji Kong, Carl Lee, J.H. Sepanski

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A class of generalized gamma distribution called the beta-gamma distribution is proposed. Some of its properties are examined. Its shape can be reversed J-shaped, unimodal, or bimodal. Reliability and hazard functions are also derived, and applications are discussed.
