Providence, R.I., Yes, You've Come A Long Way, Chester Smolski Dec 1980

Providence, R.I., Yes, You've Come A Long Way, Chester Smolski

Smolski Texts

"It was just three years ago that this writer described on these pages a "Saturday night out" in downtown Providence. The story demonstrated that a middle-aged couple could walk the city streets without being mugged, but more important, it revealed how little there was to see or do in the heart of the capital city.

Ri: An Exodus From The Cities, Chester Smolski

Smolski Texts

"The numbers from the 1980 census are now starting to appear, and although some of the figures are preliminary, they still give an indication of trends. Until more detailed numbers become available in the spring, city and town totals for Rhode Island can now form the basis for some early analysis of changes over the past 10 years."

Changing Markets Require Different Style Of Houses, Chester Smolski

Smolski Texts

"It touches on the heartstrings and evokes a sense of nostalgia: the scene of father and mother sitting near the fireplace with the children playing at their feet. Here it is, the typical family at home, secure, stable, symbolic of the American way of life. But is this picture really accurate?

Providence Home Rule, Chester Smolski Oct 1980

Providence Home Rule, Chester Smolski

Smolski Texts

"The opposition bumper stickers have already appeared. In bright fluorescent colors to catch the unsuspecting eye, the message is loud and clear--'Reject Home Rule Charter.' Why should there be this opposition, and who are the people against this progressive move toward better local government?"
