Purpose of the Study: Due to the resignation of Miss Nettie Smith, a board member of The King's Daughters Home for Incurables, Louisville, Kentucky, who was paid on a part time basis to do social work for the Home, the board members requested help from the Community Chest in finding someone to continue the work that Miss Smith had been doing for the Home. Due to the shortage of medical social workers in the community, the Community Chest suggested that the board request the Family Service Organization to continue with the services which Miss Smith had been performing. A beautiful and successful actress, Lotta Crabtree, included as part of her will, the following statement: "I have given much thought to the sad conditions of those who may have erred in life, both men and women, who suffered punishment therefore in our state prisons and reformatories, and who find themselves after their release in an almost helpless condition in which to begin the world anew."
