Within her recent book, Michele Jarldorn (2018) advances the methodological literature on photovoice. As someone who has also written a book on the photovoice methodology (Latz, 2017), reading this book felt like home to me. It also felt like looking—or reading—in the mirror. I approached the book joyfully, excitedly, and closely. Asserting that radical social work and photovoice have complementary aims, Jarldorn presents a practical and pragmatic look at photovoice in action. Readers across the globe and from any disciplinary background will find this new text rich with nuanced, experience-based, and useful content.

Methodological rigor in constructivist inquiry is established through an assessment of trustworthiness and authenticity. Trustworthiness parallels the positivistic concepts of internal and external validity, focusing on an assessment of the inquiry process. Authenticity, however, is unique to constructivist inquiry and has no parallel in the positivistic paradigm. Authenticity involves an assessment of the meaningfulness and usefulness of interactive inquiry processes and social change that results from these processes. However, the techniques for ascertaining authenticity are in the early stages of development. In this article I review the book Getting Lost: Feminist Efforts towards a Double(d) science (Lather, 2007) from the perspective of a feminist social worker. Lather, using herself and her previous research with women as example, explores feminist methodological issues of loss of authority and loss of innocence as a means towards the creation of new forms of knowledge. The Ju/’hoan Bushman origin myth is depicted as a contextual frame for their healing and transformative ways. Using Recursive Frame Analysis, these performances are shown to be an enactment of the border crossing between First and Second Creation, that is, pre - linguistic and linguistic domains of experience. The reflections on interdisciplinarity cover several dimensions. One, among them, concerns the nature of what occurs between two disciplines. Does inter-disciplinarity relate to an intention, to a metatheory, to the object, or to a method?
