A Three-Phase Power Flow Approach For Integrated 3-Wire Mv And 4-Wire Multigrounded Lv Networks With Rooftop Solar Pv, Md J E Alam, K M. Muttaqi, Darmawan Sutanto

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

With increasing level of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) penetration into low voltage (LV) distribution networks, analysis with realistic network models is necessary for adequate capturing of network behavior. Traditional three-phase 3-wire power flow approach lacks the capability of exact analysis of 4-wire multigrounded LV networks due to the approximation of merging the neutral wire admittance into the phase wire admittances. Such an approximation may not be desirable when neutral wire and grounding effects need to be assessed, especially in the presence of single-phase solar power injection that may cause a significant level of network unbalance. This paper proposes a three-phase …

Modeling Dense-Phase Pneumatic Conveying Of Powders Using Suspension Density, S S. Mallick, P W. Wypych, R Pan

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This article presents results of an investigation into the modeling of pressure drop in horizontal straight pipe section for fluidized dense-phase pneumatic conveying of powders. Suspension density and superficial air velocity have been used to model pressure drop for two-phase solids-gas flow. Two applicable models formats (developed by other researchers using two different definitions of suspension density) were used to represent the pressure drop due to solids-gas flow through straight pipe sections. Models were generated based on the test data of conveying power-station fly ash and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) dust (median particle diameter: 30 and 7 µm; particle density: 2300 …

Novel Modulation And Control Strategy For Five-Level Anpc Converter With Unbalanced Dc Voltage Applied To A Single-Phase Grid Connected Pv System, Hamid R. Teymour, Danny Sutanto, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Phil Ciufo Jan 2013

Novel Modulation And Control Strategy For Five-Level Anpc Converter With Unbalanced Dc Voltage Applied To A Single-Phase Grid Connected Pv System, Hamid R. Teymour, Danny Sutanto, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Phil Ciufo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper proposes a new control strategy and a novel modulation technique for a grid-connected photo-voltaic (PV) system using a single-phase five-level flying capacitor (FC) based active-neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) converter. The proposed modulator can control the FC voltage to follow the requested reference value and simultaneously generate the required ac output voltage regardless of the values of the dc capacitor voltages of the converter. By implementing this method, smaller values of dc-link and flying capacitors can be used even in applications that could experience ripple or transient in the capacitors voltage. In the grid-connected single-phase five-level ANPC, where the capacitors can …

Characterising Poly (Vinyl Chloride)/Aliquat 336 Polymer Inclusion Membranes: Evidence Of Phase Separation And Its Role In Metal Extraction, Nurul-Syazana Abdul-Halim, Philip G. Whitten, Long D. Nghiem Jan 2013

Characterising Poly (Vinyl Chloride)/Aliquat 336 Polymer Inclusion Membranes: Evidence Of Phase Separation And Its Role In Metal Extraction, Nurul-Syazana Abdul-Halim, Philip G. Whitten, Long D. Nghiem

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The miscibility of the base polymer poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) and the extractant Aliquat 336 in polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) was investigated by characterisation of thermal transitions using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The extractions of Cd (II) and Zn (II) using PVC/Aliquat 336 PIMs with different base polymer/extractant composition and different extraction temperature were also investigated. Changes in the PIM's heat capacity measured by DSC were small, thus, could only be used to determine the glass transition temperature (Tg) of PIMs with low Aliquat 336 content. On the other hand, DMA results clearly identify the …

Optical Image Encryption Based On Chaotic Baker Map And Double Random Phase Encoding, Ahmed M. Elshamy, Ahmed N. Z Rashed, Abd El-Naser A. Mohamed, Osama S. Faragalla, Yi Mu, Saleh A. Alshebeili, F E Abd El-Samie

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents a new technique for optical image encryption based on chaotic Baker map and Double Random Phase Encoding (DRPE). This technique is implemented in two layers to enhance the security level of the classical DRPE. The first layer is a pre-processing layer, which is performed with the chaotic Baker map on the original image. In the second layer, the classical DRPE is utilized. Matlab simulation experiments show that the proposed technique enhances the security level of the DRPE, and at the same time has a better immunity to noise.

A Composite Quality-Guided Phase Unwrapping Algorithm For Fast 3d Profile Measurement, Ke Chen, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Limei Song

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Fringe pattern profilometry (FPP) is one of the most promising 3D profile measurement techniques, which has been widely applied in many areas. A challenge problem associated with FPP is the unwrapping of wrapped phase maps resulted from complex object surface shapes. Although existing quality-guided phase unwrapping algorithms are able to solve such a problem, they are usually extensively computational expensive and not able to be applied to fast 3D measurement scenarios. This paper proposes a new quality-guided phase unwrapping algorithm with higher computational efficiency than the conventional ones. In the proposed method, a threshold of quality value is used to …

A Theoretical Investigation Of A Solar Photovoltaic Thermal System Integrated With Phase Change Materials, M Imroz Sohel, Zhenjun Ma, Paul Cooper, Jamie Adams, Robert Scott

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper we present a theoretical investigation of an air based solar photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system integrated with phase change materials. The advantage of the air based PVT system is that the air can be directly used for space heating or cooling. At first we present an air based PVT system model and analyze the effect of major parameters on the system performance. We then integrate this PVT system model with a phase change material (PCM) energy storage system model and analyze the system performance. We found that solar irradiation increased thermal efficiency initially before reaching a plateau. However, …

New Approach To Improve The Accuracy Of 3-D Shape Measurement Of Moving Object Using Phase Shifting Profilometry, Lei Lu, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Qinghua Guo Jan 2013

New Approach To Improve The Accuracy Of 3-D Shape Measurement Of Moving Object Using Phase Shifting Profilometry, Lei Lu, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Qinghua Guo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

When phase shifting profilometry (PSP) is emplyed for 3-D shape measurement, the object must be kept static during the projection and acquisition of the multiple fringe patterns. Errors will occur when the object moves and if the projection and capture of fringe patterns are not fast enough. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to tackle the problem, consisting of two steps. Firstly, the rotation matrix and translation vector describing the movement of the object are estimated using a set of marks placing on the surface of the object. Then the expressions of the fringe patterns under the influence …

Analytical Nonlinear Reluctance Model Of A Single-Phase Saturated Core Fault Current Limiter, Philip A. Commins, Jeffrey W. Moscrop Jan 2013

Analytical Nonlinear Reluctance Model Of A Single-Phase Saturated Core Fault Current Limiter, Philip A. Commins, Jeffrey W. Moscrop

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A saturated core fault current limiter (FCL) is a device that is designed to limit the fault currents in electrical energy networks and consequently, protect existing network equipment from damage. Due to complex nonlinear magnetic properties, the performance of saturated core FCLs has largely been characterized through experimentation and finite-element analysis simulations. Although both of these techniques are quite accurate, they are time consuming and do not describe the behavior of FCLs in actual electrical networks. This has led to an increasing demand for an accurate analytical model that is suitable for transient network analyses. This paper presents the development …
