The Relationship Of Church Activity Of Parents Of Lds Seminary Students To The Attendance Of Seminary Students At Church, Ronald D. Firth

Theses and Dissertations

It has been observed that not all L.D.S. Seminary students are active in church attendance. There is little doubt in the minds of educators that parents affect a great deal the activities of their children.

The purpose of the study was to learn what relationship, if any, existed between a seminary student's church attendance and the church activities of his parents, and to find out which, if any, of five specific areas of parental church activity had the most positive effect on a student's church attendance.

Based on his experience in the church, the writer chose the following areas of …

A Folk History Of The Manti Temple: A Study Of The Folklore And Traditions Connected With The Settlement Of Manti, Utah, And The Building Of The Temple, Barbara Lee Hargis

Theses and Dissertations

For some time I have been collecting folk material of the pioneers of Sanpete County, Utah, and their subsequent building of the Manti Temple. A few of the county's senior citizens witnessed part of the construction in the late 1870's and 1880's and the dedication in 1888 of the Temple. Many more are descendants of men and women who were directly involved in the building of the Temple and in the early work done there after its construction.

The stories that these people tell are significant. A collection of them represents a rich folk history of a religious, pioneering people …

Socio-Political Factors Affecting The Growth Of The Mormon Church In Argentina Since 1925, Michael B. Smurthwaite Jan 1968

Socio-Political Factors Affecting The Growth Of The Mormon Church In Argentina Since 1925, Michael B. Smurthwaite

Theses and Dissertations

Since 1925 Mormon missionaries have proselyted in Catholic Argentina. Yet the Argentine mission has grown very slowly and encountered many difficulties. Did the missionaries' North American image affect the missionary work? Did the predominance of the Catholic Church stunt the growth of the new sect? How did the impact of bitter U.S.-Argentine international relations during the Second World War, and the advent of Peron affect the reception of Mormonism in Argentina?

These questions concerning the history of the Mormon Church in Argentina since 1940 can best be understood by considering the episodes of Argentine history which bear directly on the …

A Study Of The Cultural And Religious Behavior Of The Navaho Indians Which Caused Animosity, Resistance, Or Indifference To The Religious Teachings Of The Latter-Day Saints, James D. Mathews

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the cultural and religious behavior of the Navaho Indians which caused animosity, resistance, or indifference to the religious teachings of the Latter-day Saints.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for many years, have been in frequent contact with the Navaho Indians. Thousands of Navaho youth have been enrolled in the Indian seminary program of the Church. Hundreds of other students have been involved in the Indian student placement program and the Brigham Young University Indian education program. Furthermore, the Church has contacted much of the population of the …
