Climbing Higher: Engineers Ready To Launch Subscale Rocket, Mark D. Weinstein

Students from the Cedarville University School of Engineering and Computer Science are set to compete for the first time in the NASA Student Launch competition this April. To prepare for the competition, team members plan to launch a subscale rocket in Cedarville on December 4, with plans for a few backup launch days the following week.

World Solar Splash: Cedarville's Streak Is Snapped, Mark D. Weinstein

Cedarville University's five-year winning streak came to an end in the 27th annual World Solar Splash competition as the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez claimed the 2021 title from Cedarville. The four-day competition, held at Champion Lake in Springfield June 8-12, featured boats from nine U.S.-based colleges and universities. Cedarville has won the competition in 12 of the 27 years.

Led by senior mechanical engineering student Micah Zell, Cedarville’s supermileage team won a technical innovation award at the 2021 Shell Eco-Marathon Americas Off-Track Awards for its vehicle’s hydraulic brake system. Zell, from Hershey, Pennsylvania, began developing the brakes as a sophomore and implemented them this past year in accordance with Shell’s new hydraulic brake requirement.
