The 94th General Assembly adopted a total of 942 new public acts, 482 in the 1985 session and another 460 in the recently completed 1986 session. This bulletin contains summaries of public acts which, for one reason or another, were not summarized in the Summary of 1986 Publications of Interest to Tennessee Municipal Officials.

Chapter No. 290, Public Acts of 1985, entitled "AN ACT relative to meetings of the board of directors of certain nonprofit corporations and to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 8, Chapter 44, Part l" (the Sunshine Law) was codified in Section 8-44-102, Tennessee Code Annotated, in such manner as to reflect a broader application than apparently was intended.

In 1986, when the General Assembly approved the codification of the 1985 Acts by Chapter No. 523, it changed the way Chapter No. 290 had been codified and reflected in the 1985 Supplement.

During the 1986 session of the Tennessee General Assembly, state representatives adopted hundreds of new laws, many of them affecting municipalities and municipal officials. In order to inform municipal officials of the most important of these Public Acts, MTAS published this bulletin. The summaries are arranged by broad categories and in the categories by Public Chapter number. These summaries should not be substituted for a reading of the Acts themselves.
