Perception Of Parental Favoritism In Young Adults: The Influence Of Extreme Favoritism Vs. Slight Favoritism, Amanda Wiener

This study examined perceived parental favoritism in a sample of 91 male and female undergraduate students from Union College. Participants were given a series of questionnaires asking about their demographics, academic achievement, and favoritism within their family. In addition, participants were given Rosenberg’s self-esteem questionnaire. This research was meant to investigate the possible predictors and effects of parental favoritism by assessing the following variables: birth order, gender, self-esteem, problem behavior and academic achievement. As hypothesized, results showed a significant correlation between perceived parental favoritism and academic achievement.
