Perceptions Of Coaches And Athletes On Motivation Methods, Tereza Melicharkova

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

The purpose of this study is to compare the coaches’ and athletes’ perception on motivational techniques. The interest of this study was to see if the coaches’ perception on the motivational techniques match with the perceptions of the athletes. Therefore, I used two different surveys; one for coaches and one for athletes. These surveys were really similar to each other. However, they differ in one section where coaches were asked to answer questions about motivational techniques that they apply to their athletes. Whereas the athletes were asked to give their personal opinion on the coaches’ motivational techniques. My hypothesis was …

Different Personality Traits Between Athletes And Non-Athletes, Sam Schoonover

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

It has been suggested that there are personality trait differences between athletes and non-athletes. I hypothesized that athletes would possess different personality traits than non-athletes. I used the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Briggs & Briggs-Myers, 2015) as my tool for assessing the difference in personality traits between athletes and non-athletes. An athlete is someone who engages in a sport for an element such as a title or rank. My sample was composed of a total of 123 participants; there were 41 athletes and 82 non-athletes. The participants were in the age range of 18 to 74; there were 29 men and …

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

This study examined the differences between athletes and non-athletes students in relation to self-esteem and stress level. Gender of the participants was also taken into consideration. Thirty participants were recruited at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. Fourteen participants were athletes and 16 participants were non-athletes. Also, 14 participants were males and 16 participants were female. Rosenberg Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) and Perceived Stress Scale (Cohen, 1983) were used to test self-esteem and stress level respectively. The hypothesis of this study was that college student athletes have a higher self-esteem and a higher stress level than non-athletes students. However, the results …

To Play Or Not To Play: Comparing Athlete’S Gpa To Non-Athlete’S Gpa, Lisa Clark, David Kanning

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

This study examines whether participating in athletics at Lindenwood University is related to the athlete’s GPA. It was hypothesized that due to the higher demands of coaches and maintaining a minimum GPA, athletes will have a higher GPA than non-athletes. The researchers contacted professors and coaches to ask permission to survey their students and athletes. After giving a survey to participants, the Lindenwood University Registrar’s Office looked up official GPAs of participants who gave their permission. The findings showed no significance supporting our hypothesis. There are several possible reasons for this weak correlation such as the number of participants and …
