This study was designed and executed with the intention to discover if there was a relationship between the amount of altruistic acts they have performed, and the attitudes towards political topics. Participants were registered voter’s in the United States and were not asked any demographic questions. This study purely focused on the responses to an Altruism Personality Assessment and a Political Attitudes Questionnaire. This study concluded with the discovery of no correlation between the amount of Altruistic acts they have performed in their life and their political opinions. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors (e.g. religiosity, sex, race, income, marital status, and education level) that best predict generosity. The level of a participant’s religiosity was measured with a questionnaire examining different self-reported factors, such as attendance of religious events, personal devotion, prayer and community life and scored on a self-devised scale. Generosity was operationally and separately defined as the actions of financial giving and volunteering. Altruism and self-worth are important concepts that past research has attempted to define and explore in various contexts. Some studies focus on self-worth and the various components of self-worth, while others define the concept in looser terms. Additionally, altruism is indirectly referred to in some studies, guised as “morality” and an attitude geared towards helping others. The present study sought to explore the relationship between these two concepts, using more basic definitions.
