This study explored the mathematics efficacy beliefs of 270 South Asian (Indo American) immigrant and Anglo American nonimmigrant 7th grade students. Self-efficacy beliefs strongly predicted mathematics performance for both cultural groups, but there were differences between the 2 groups in the sources of self-efficacy, the predictiveness of the secondary motivation variables. It is argued that the Indo American students are more vertical or hierarchical than the Anglo-American students and that comparison with others strongly influences their motivation beliefs and the formation of their efficacy beliefs. Self-efficacy in some cultures may be more other-oriented than is typically seen in Western cultures. …

The purpose of the present study was to examine the direct and indirect effects of Problematic Instagram use (PIU) on different psychopathological outcomes including loneliness, depression, anxiety, and social anxiety. Additionally, moderating role of gender on the relationships among variables was investigated. A total of 191 adolescents (Mage= 21.45 years, SD=2.07; range=18 to 24 years) were recruited for the study to complete a questionnaire that included the relevant assessment tools for the variables. Reasoning About Religion And The Effects Of Belief Bias, Erica Daniela Contreras Ochoa

The present study compares religious skeptics to believers, assessing both performance and response times on logical reasoning problems (syllogisms). Skepticism make fewer reasoning errors than did believers, while controlling for general cognitive ability, time spent on the problems, and various demographic variables. Comparison of response times indicated that skeptics also spent more time reasoning than did believers. This suggests that slower processing is an important component of analytic problem solving. Implications for using additional processing measures, such as response time, to investigate individual differences in cognitive style are discussed.

This study aimed to explore the relationship among personality traits, psychological factors, such as self-efficacy, mental energy, and perfectionism, and the ability of college athletes to perform successfully as measured by their level of competition. Fifty-six NCAA Division I college athletes between 18 and 23 years old participated in the study. The questionnaire for this study included four different scales that measured personality traits, energy, individual and social self-efficacy, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, and perfectionism levels of participants. Numerous studies have shown that attachment styles develop from primary caregivers and influence our self esteem and ability to trust and maintain healthy relationships. Correlations with different attachment styles and negative outcomes, such as anxiety have been made. This study investigated the relationship between Anxious attachment style and Anxiety in 37 college students 18-30 at an undergraduate college in New York. The Collins Adult Attachment Scale Attachment was used to assess attachment styles and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale for anxiety. Parents of 128 children in a rural elementary school provided information on home Internet access and children’s online activities. Children were individually administered four measures of cognitive development (expressive language, metacognition, visual perception, and auditory memory) and were asked to define ten Internet terms (e.g., email, chat, website). The ability to define an Internet term was assumed to be indicative of experience with that application. Stress, Coping, And Mindfulness Among University Students, Abigail Denise Kiselyuk

A sample of 135 first-year university students living in residence completed questionnaires that measured individual differences in mindfulness, coping styles, and perceived stress. Findings revealed significant positive relationships between mindfulness and rational coping, and significant negative relationships with emotional and avoidant coping and perceived stress. Regression analyses revealed that avoidant coping and perceived stress predicted 38.2% of the variance of mindfulness scores. Findings from this study improve our understanding of how mindfulness relates to coping styles, thereby suggesting potential ways to enhance counseling services and programming for first-year university students during the often difficult transition to university.

Eating Disorders (EDs) are serious mental health conditions proposed to be multifactorial in nature. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma history, and childhood maltreatment have been noted as possible predictive factors for their development. Research on complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) in relation to EDs, however, is limited. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between childhood maltreatment and ED psychopathology, in relation to CPTSD symptomatology as defined by the ICD-11. Domestic violence is a behavioral problem that has increased within the United States over the past decade. This master’s thesis analyzed the literature that reports on the psychological and physiological (often termed psychophysiological) portion of domestic violence. Analysis of three studies on the effects of domestic violence shows agreement that domestic violence manifests in victims as four primary physiological effects and four psychological effects. However, treatment of domestic abuse appears to concentrate on the psychological components of domestic abuse and tends to exclude the physiological aspects.
