The Holocaust's Legacy: Influencing Jewish Political Identity, Jordan Eskew
The Holocaust's Legacy: Influencing Jewish Political Identity, Jordan Eskew
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This thesis addresses the intricate relationship between the historical persecution of the Holocaust and its enduring influence on contemporary Jewish political engagement, a subject of significant contemporary relevance in political and international relations. Despite broad recognition of the Holocaust’s impact, the specific ways in which its memory affects Jewish political attitudes and actions around the world in the modern day have not been sufficiently thoroughly examined. Utilizing qualitative methods, including interviews with 20 individuals—public figures, Holocaust survivors, their descendants, and broader members of the Jewish diaspora— this study focuses on understanding the interplay between historical trauma, community cohesion, and the …
Inequalities In Heterosexual Sex And How We Can Become Equals, Sophie Bierly
Inequalities In Heterosexual Sex And How We Can Become Equals, Sophie Bierly
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Sexual inequality is well researched in the academic sphere but is absent from the political realm. Previous research has identified that sex is defined for men’s pleasure, that women suffer from an orgasm gap, and that male domination is standard in heterosexual sex. Due to the private nature of sex, sexual inequality is untouched as a personal problem rather than deconstructed as a political injustice. Sex is one of the primary ways in which we perform gendered socialization, due …

Theory Of Black Racial Forgiveness: The Expectation Of Black Sacrifice, Kayla Weston
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Forgiveness is traditionally seen as an inherently virtuous act, but contemporary anti-racist activists have pointed to repeated high-profile examples of Black people forgiving white people for unspeakably violent and racist actions to call into question our normative understanding of forgiveness’s meaning, and implications. For this reason, this project critically analyzes the political implications of interracial Black forgiveness, to understand how its significance goes beyond merely being an expression of grace, and instead helps to define, and re-substantiate current and future race relations. The goal of this thesis is to conceptualize the ways in which acts of Black racial forgiveness function …
Havelian Presidency: A Study In Theory & Practice, Chelsea Johnson
Havelian Presidency: A Study In Theory & Practice, Chelsea Johnson
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Despite former dissident and Czech president Václav Havel’s widespread influence, his presidency has not been seriously considered as a framework for how one should head a government. A reasoned and thorough examination of Havel’s presidency is conspicuously absent in the existing literature. Havel is known for and evaluated most in terms of his sweeping moral principles and philosophical treatises, but I wish to know whether his 13-year presidency passes the test of ideal world leadership that he provides so clearly in his written works and speeches. Specifically, I develop a set of ideal traits for world leadership and then examine …
