Comic : An Exploration Into Computer-Mediated Intercultural Communication, Simone Alder

This thesis explores how cultural differences manifest themselves in computermediated intercultural communication (CoMIC). This study particularly looks at the role and use of digital nonverbals (DNVs) and their regulatory functions. The data analyzed is from a global virtual team working together for a period of three months. The grounded theory method has been employed to code the electronic transcript of the team's communication. Furthermore, the participants were surveyed regarding their personal backgrounds, their work, and their perception of the communication processes that took place. Thousands of U.S. students travel to other countries each year to participate in study programs offered either by their home or the target country institutions. This study explores the effects that these study abroad experiences have on decisions that returning students make with regard to their future educational goals, career choices, and further foreign travel.

Using the alumni database of Cultural Experiences Abroad, a student travel organization, data were gathered from 185 primarily undergraduate students who spent from two weeks to one year as participants in a study abroad program. The students were from various geographic locations in the United …

It is the purpose of this study to trace in part Hull's role as implementer of the Good Neighbor policy particularly in the Western Hemisphere. Hull was an internationalist. His ultimate goal was to lead the way to a better world order that is built upon cooperation and mutual respect. This was the original meaning of the Good Neighbor policy as stated in Mr. Roosevelt's first inaugural address.
