The proliferation of social media has the ability to considerably impact stakeholders’ perspective of an organization’s brand. Due to this relationship, social media analysis is crucial to executing informed brand communication strategies. In October 2016, the brand communication strategies of the National FFA Organization were focused on promoting the 89th National FFA Convention. A large portion of these efforts and resources were dedicated towards the utilization of social media. Scholars extol the virtues of crafting effective mission statements and the importance of its frequent communication. Especially in nonprofit business settings, mission statements can be an important way to provide goals and purpose for an organization’s staff. Creating and conveying mission statements to unify a staff whose tasks span a broad range is a difficult but important part of visionary leadership. This study explored mission statement dissemination at a university to understand its impact on staff whose tasks included limited academic work with students. This quantitative research project set out to answer the question, “What type of advertising strategy, logos, ethos, or pathos, will be most effective in increasing donations to Hats Off for Cancer, a nonprofit organization?” By administering a survey including manufactured advertisements to potential donors through the Hats Off for Cancer e-newsletter, the Hats Off for Cancer Facebook page, and my own Facebook network, I received 44 responses. That could be the conclusion one might draw from reading the literature on the traits, skills, and characteristics required to lead a nonprofit organization.
