Have you ever had a difficult time describing a concept for a project? This can be especially true with collaborative projects between library and IT staff. Library and IT staff have historically been at odds concerning communication due to the use of jargon specific to their area, different working environments and styles, and conflicting best practices and standards that each follow. K-State Libraries and their internal IT department will share the communication issues with solutions from a librarian’s and developer’s perspective. This panel fits the “Best-practice examples of instructional/assessment practice to develop diversity outcomes.” Students who experience StrengthsQuest based learning will have a greater appreciation for their own strengths and better understand/appreciate the actions of students with different strengths from their own. Each presenter has different outcomes and assessments in using the StrengthsQuest learning approach. Department chairs and other academic leaders were invited to participate in Crucial Conversations training as part of professional development programming sponsored by the provost’s office. This session will 1) describe the logistics of the program including the Crucial Conversations platform; 2) present cohort data, 3) share assessment data for the program; and 4) identify best practices for on-going communication training.
