Geochemical Consequences Of The Permian-Triassic Mass Extinction In A Non-Marine Succession, Sydney Basin, Australia, M Williams, B Jones, P Carr

B. G. Jones

The identification of the Permian–Triassic boundary (PTB) and Permian–Triassic mass extinction event (PTME) in eastern Australia is based primarily on palynological and plant fossil evidence with limited δ13Corg data from the northern part of the Sydney Basin. Consequently, the PTB in the Sydney Basin has been placed at the top of the last Permian coal measures. Here we report carbon and nitrogen isotopic data, together with major element, trace element and mineralogical data, for a continuous non‐marine Permian–Triassic (P–Tr) section from the southern Sydney Basin. The PTME is identified by a negative shift in δ13Corg of ~ 3.8‰ occurring approximately …

Dietary Consequences Of Recommending Reduced-Fat Dairy Products In The Weight-Loss Context: A Secondary Analysis With Practical Implications For Registered Dietitians, Deborah Nolan-Clark, Elizabeth Mathers, Yasmine Probst, Karen Charlton, Marijka Batterham, Linda Tapsell Apr 2013

Dietary Consequences Of Recommending Reduced-Fat Dairy Products In The Weight-Loss Context: A Secondary Analysis With Practical Implications For Registered Dietitians, Deborah Nolan-Clark, Elizabeth Mathers, Yasmine Probst, Karen Charlton, Marijka Batterham, Linda Tapsell

Replacing full-fat dairy products with reduced-fat varieties is a dietetic strategy for reducing energy intake while maintaining nutritional adequacy. This study aimed to explore the dietary outcomes of this recommendation in the context of weight loss. This study involved a secondary analysis of diet-history data for 86 adults (23 males and 63 females; body mass index=31.1±3.4) who had completed 3 months of a weight-loss trial in 2009, including advice to consume reduced-fat dairy products. Dairy food intake was categorized using the Australian 1995 National Nutrition Survey food hierarchy. Paired t tests and Wilcoxon signed rank tests determined dairy product consumption …

The purpose of the present studies was to examine the effects of response scale on the observed relationships between protective behavioral strategies (PBS) measures and alcohol-related outcomes. We reasoned that an "absolute frequency" scale (stem: "how many times..."; response scale: 0 times to 11 + times) conflates the frequency of using PBS with the frequency of consuming alcohol; thus, we hypothesized that the use of an absolute frequency response scale would result in positive relationships between types of PBS and alcohol-related outcomes. Alternatively, a "contingent frequency" scale (stem: "When drinking ... how often ..."; response scale: never to always …
