Faith-based organizations provide social and mental support to their members, but the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the implementation of massive restrictions of movement, which affected every aspect of social life, including church attendance. On the other hand, the pandemic-related challenges which included social, spiritual, mental and financial, increased due to the restrictions of movement, as well as the high numbers of sick and dying people. The purpose of this study was to explore the views and experiences of members of FBOs during the Covid pandemic.

This presentation will describe the FARM STEW Certified Home study and participants current health practices. The majority of the participants reported that they had a tippy tap (sink with soap or ash). Many had a garden growing fresh vegetables and were participating in the savings account/ VSLA.

The global increase in mental disorders includes a significant proportion of children and adolescents, and bullying in school is reported to be a contributory factor to mental disorders among children. Although bullying in Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, is anecdotally acknowledged, this public health, developmental, and education challenge has mainly been limited to the rite of passage for children, and not much has been done to identify risk factors for bullying perpetrators and victims in a school environment. The purpose of the study was to screen learners in Tshwane District, Pretoria, for bullying behavior.

This presentation highlights findings from a study exploring student perceptions of spirituality and contributing to their community after participating in an emergency preparedness interprofessional simulation. Mixed methods were utilized and an online survey was emailed to a convenience sample (N=338). The majority self-reported they can better contribute to their community.

Research into the serious manifestation of maternal mortality in Papua New Guinea is essential for formative knowledge and intervention. Explanatory sequential mixed methods approach employed first involved SPSS analyses of Gulf Provincial Hospital’s obstetric data revealing high rates of home deliveries by mothers. Interviews in high incidence communities provided explanations and mortality experiences.

This presentation provides an overview of recent scientific research in the area of childhood influences on adult health, the significance of mental health challenges in contemporary society, self-reported discrimination and health and the effects of forgiveness on health. In all of these diverse areas, the findings highlight opportunities for faith-based institutions and individuals to affirm and act on mission priorities.
