A Pandemics Treaty: A Boon For Africa, Kafumu Kalyalya

Southern African Journal of Policy and Development

This article illustrates the weaknesses of the current global health framework. It highlights two pillars a new treaty regime ought to be built upon. The analysis seeks to establish how these pillars could have helped Africa during the pandemic and can indeed help Africa in future pandemics. The analysis suggests the need for a unified global health regime or pandemics’ treaty that promotes a level legal and political playing field regarding future pandemics. Southern African Journal of Policy and Development

The key independent variables were risk perception of COVID-19, risk perception of the health care system (local and global), and risk perception of the big five global health problems (HIV/AIDS, cancer, injury from road traffic accidents, influenza, and diabetes). Risk perception of the health care system was measured by looking at whether or not the respondents trust the …

Studies of patient waiting time are scarce in low-income countries. Significant consequences of long patient waiting times, such as reduced healthcare seeking behaviours, indicate that minimising patient waiting time should be prioritised in low-income settings. Several short and long-term intervention strategies to combat the effects of patient waiting time and improve overall efficiency are based on the analysis of patient waiting time at the Medical Outpatient Department of Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center.
