"I’Ll Wait Zero Seconds": Faculty Perspectives On Serials Access, Sharing, And Immediacy, Rachel Elizabeth Scott, Anne Shelley, Chad E. Buckley, Cassie Thayer-Styes, Julie A. Murphy

This study explores how faculty across disciplines access and share scholarly serial content and what expectations they have for immediacy. The authors conducted twenty-five in-depth, semi-structured interviews with faculty of various ranks representing all Illinois State University (ISU) colleges. The findings, presented in the words of participants and triangulated with data from local sources, suggest that faculty use a variety of context-specific mechanisms to access and share serial literature. Participants discuss how they use library services such as databases, subscriptions, interlibrary loan, and document delivery, coupled with academic social networks, disciplinary repositories, author websites, and other publicly available sources to …

The Jesuit Tradition Of Astronomy At Holy Cross, Sarah Campbell M.A., M.S.I.S.

This paper summarizes the study of astronomy and related fields as part of the curriculum at the College of the Holy Cross. It briefly profiles four Jesuit priests who were associated with Holy Cross and made significant contributions to the study of astronomy, solar physics and other scientific disciplines. The history of a campus observatory is briefly described as well.

This paper was presented an event sponsored by the Holy Cross Libraries to commemmorate the solar exclipse which occurred April 8. 2024.

Time Towards Tenure Dean’S Procedures For University Libraries, Annie Bélanger

Library Reports and Communication

The Dean has the authority to grant time towards tenure as per BOT Policy 4.2.7 at the time of appointment. The policy allows for up to 3 years of equivalency at another academic institution. Once granted, it cannot be subsequently changed, rescinded or revoked. The ability to pause the tenure clock as granted by BOT Policy 4.2.7.2 remains available to faculty members who have been awarded time towards tenure.

This document outlines the approach that the Dean of University Libraries will use in granting time towards tenure in order to advance transparency and accountability in the granting of equivalency.

Open access journals and open data provide researchers with information that would otherwise be behind a paywall. Both are growing exponentially and are widely used and cited by scholars. However, not all open access journals are respected, peer reviewed publications and should be evaluated prior to submitting research. Open data repositories allow researchers to deposit their data to promote it and make it available for others to access and use. Physicists in academic institutions utilize a variety of resources and strategies to seek, find, and use scholarly information and news. Using a sample of physicists, researchers surveyed 182 students and faculty at seven Canadian university institutions to explore self-perceived success rates, resources consulted, databases used, and use of social media and citation management systems. To complement the survey, 11 follow up interviews/focus groups were completed with participants to further uncover information-seeking behaviors, choices, strategies, and feelings around keeping up to date with information needs. The 2021 Washington Library Association (WLA) Conference’s shift from in-person to virtual was a decision that felt appropriate and not at all surprising, given the uncertainty surrounding large in-person events due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The study was conducted to investigate the Availability, Accessibility and Satisfaction of Users of Information Resources in the Faculty of Agriculture University Libraries by Non-Academic Staffs of OAU and UI, Nigeria. Three research objectives guided the study. 380 copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents in the faculty of agriculture university libraries and in response only 315 (82.89%) were received from the nonacademic staffs. stratified random sampling technique was employed for the study due to the largeness of the population. A survey concerning perceptions of academic librarians was conducted at a large, 4-year university with three populations: librarians, faculty, and undergraduate students. This paper presents results from the student population, with comparison to the librarian and faculty samples. The major research questions address perceptions about what librarians know (expertise and skills), what librarians do (role and duties), and what librarians are like (motivations and affective characteristics). Respondents showed a little more awareness of librarians’ professional duties than in previous studies; however, librarians’ duties related to organization, reference, and teaching remained more hidden from view.
