Striving “Beyond Excellence” is the motto of the University of the Southern Caribbean, and the Forde Library strives to embody such by constantly reviewing and upgrading the resources and services offered to their community. One of the main drivers of such a review process in the past three years has been the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced many academic libraries to reimagine their service offerings and access points. The Impact Of Information And Communication Technology On The User Services Division Of The Forde Library Of University Of The Southern Caribbean, Anastasia Mulraine-Campbell, Kerry-Ann Rodney-Wellington

This study seeks to assess the user frequency and impact of ICT on the performance of the User Services Division, with specific insight on the Circulation, Reference and Instruction Units of the Forde Library. The impact of ICT was measured using cluster-based sampling given to 340 undergraduate students, with a return rate of 62% - 211 students. The analysis revealed a significant lack of awareness and usage of the ICT offerings. Exceptions to low usage and awareness were the OPAC and the Library’s Website. The main factors that impacted the low awareness and usage were limited marketing, no knowledge of …

Public and school libraries have expanded their offerings and increased their online presence to ensure that patrons continue to access their services. Within the discipline of library science, there are two themes that speak to both the philosophy of librarianship and that intersect with biblical teaching. These are “documentality” and “information literacy.” Both themes within the librarianship context emerge from and speak to the metanarratives of contemporary culture, particularly as they pertain to higher education. Documentality embraces the social values and practices underpinning the reification and commodification of human communication, from the mind of the author to publication, to distribution, to access. Information literacy, in turn, engages the social values and practices of the individual reader engaging with these authored products. Though …

A Citation Study Of Andrews University Theological Seminary Dissertations, Cynthia Mae Helms, Bernard Helms
Journal of Adventist Libraries and Archives
Citations found in Theological Seminary Ph.D./Th.D. dissertations completed between 2006 and 2010 at Andrews University were analyzed to determine how much of the cited resources were held by the library, what types of resources were used, and their age. The study showed that 2/3 of the citations were books and almost 1/3 were periodicals, 84% of the citations were held by James White Library, and the majority of the citations were published within 60 years of the dissertations’ completion dates. The study also revealed that five of the 27 most frequently cited periodicals were included in ranked lists of three …

This paper looks at librarian/course instructor collaboration in higher education and draws specific lessons from the two-year experience of a librarian embedded into an advanced college writing class. The case study pays particular attention to how collaboration influences students' development of research and writing skills and attitudes, and the instructional design of the course.

The three elements of effective mentoring are mentor expertise, a mentoring plan, and a good working relationship between mentor and mentee. Strategies are discussed and experiences shared.
