The Local Is Global: Broker For Human Rights “Florence Kitchelt, Connecticut Peace Activist And Feminist,” 1920-1961, Danelle L. Moon
Danelle L. Moon
In this paper, I will explore the role of local peace activist and feminist, Florence Ledyard Kitchelt (1874-1961) in supporting social justice, equality, and world peace. In 1924 Kitchelt accepted a paid position with the Connecticut League of Nation’s Association (CLNA), and for nearly twenty years she served as secretary and director of the organization. Working through the CLNA she canvassed the state promoting peace education and to building support for the League of Nations and the World Court. In 1925 she traveled to Geneva to study the League of Nations and attended the Assembly. Between the wars she worked …

We all know the library houses a large collection of research materials at our disposal for all of the essays and research projects we are assigned throughout the semester. Did you know that it also has a wide array of items that can make your spine tingle, stir your imagination, and perhaps conjure up memories of Halloweens past? The horror genre has spanned many forms of media.

Collection building in the digital age aims to create a collection of "freely accessible, integrated, and comprehensive record of serious scholarship and knowledge." Library collections are broadly defined as all the resources libraries make available to users—items purchased, locally created or reformatted digital materials, subject guides, social networking tools, and content freely accessible in digital collections around the world. New selectors must master several enduring skills related to collection policy, management of print and digital resources, budget management, and liaison with clientele. An entrepreneurial approach to collection building and liaison requires an understanding of the digital library context and diverse …

Introduction
We explore the use of a psychometric model for locally-relevant, information literacy assessment, using an online tool for standardised assessment of student learning during discipline-based library instruction sessions.
Method
A quantitative approach to data collection and analysis was used, employing standardised multiple-choice survey questions followed by individual, cognitive interviews with undergraduate students. The assessment tool was administered to five general education psychology classes during library instruction sessions.
Analysis
Descriptive statistics were generated by the assessment tool. Results. The assessment tool proved a feasible means of measuring student learning. While student scores improved on every survey question, there was uneven …

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to describe the successful collaboration between faculty in Eastern Kentucky University Libraries and the University's Occupational Therapy Department in supporting a graduate student learning community, and the benefits of stepping outside of typical liaison activities to play an active role in this new educational paradigm.
Design/methodology/approach – In 2006, graduate students and faculty in Occupational Therapy at Eastern Kentucky University, with a librarian and with the support of a national professional organization, facilitated the completion of a graduate thesis through the use of a topic-based learning community. This team completed an in-depth, …

Are your faculty members overwhelmed with information in this digital age? Are they tired of receiving incomprehensible bibliographies from students? This poster will explore the variety of citation management software supported by the UW-Madison Libraries and demonstrate how this software can improve both faculty and student research. The poster provides overviews of EndNote, EndNote Web, RefWorks and Zotero combined with an assessment tool for instructors. The assessment tool is designed to guide instructors through the process of determining which software best meets her/his needs and those of students in the context of the course assignments.
