Information literacy is more important than ever as students’ information sources rapidly expand and change. Fortunately, Messiah has numerous resources to support instructors and students in cutting through the clutter and improving writing. In this workshop we will discuss those supports as well as resources that can be applied to a wide array of writing assignments. Particularly, ways to scaffold information literacy initiatives with the help of online and library based tools. This workshop is facilitated by Brooke Dunbar-Treadwell, Director of Writing and Senior Lecturer of English and Beth Transue, Information Literacy Librarian.

Over the last decade, many academic libraries have added a discovery layer to their integrated library systems (ILS) in an effort to improve access to information and streamline the users’ search experience. This poster will attempt to apply the techniques used in Queer Theory to explore library and information science’s use and misuse of library classification systems; and to examine how “queering” these philosophical categories can not only improve libraries, but also help change social constructs.

For millennia, philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, have used and expounded upon categories and systems of classification. At many institutions, students are required to use the Blackboard online course management system. Often, links are provided to library resources through Blackboard. An extension of this service was developed a few years ago that enabled the delivery of course-related content at the point-of-need by utilizing LibGuides.
