They will present on how global libraries in a regional context can inform librarianship across divides. One way that some libraries attempt to improve their services to trans and gender diverse patrons is by encouraging employees to attend a Trans 101 workshop or equivalent. But this alone isn’t enough; it needs follow-up and long-term commitment to actually make a library inclusive for people of all genders. In this session, the presenter (who has led many trans inclusion workshops and presentations for libraries) will address the limitations of current attempts at trans and gender diverse inclusion in libraries, and offer strategies for building on these to more meaningfully integrate gender inclusion into library work.

Leadership is one of the most critical factors in the success or failure of an organization and can greatly impact the health and well-being of all participants, especially lower participants. (Kendrick, Kaetrena Davis, 2020). In Robert Greenleaf’s 1970 book, The Servant as Leader, he posits that a leader should be a servant first, seeking the health and development of all participants in an organization. Generating interest in local history and historic buildings can be a challenge at times for archivists and historic preservationists. When the two groups collaborate, however, it can lead to greater interest and investment in preservation across the board. This session will explore how partnerships between historic preservationists and archivists can increase community relationships, foster greater interest in local histories, and further work to preserve a community’s documentary and architectural heritage. Tricia Gilson will discuss a multi-partner effort to document a nineteenth-century historic downtown and some of the women-owned and Jewish-owned businesses once found there. With the types of electronic resources to which libraries subscribe becoming more diversified, authentication methods are evolving with a greater degree of complexity. This is particularly true of business databases providing access to large sets of data and proprietary information, such as Capital IQ and Checkpoint EDGE. The current landscape suggests a movement away from IP validation and EZproxy. This presentation will explore the challenges of keeping abreast with vendor preferred authentication methods from the perspective of a student or faculty member and library systems personnel.

Information literacy is more important than ever as students’ information sources rapidly expand and change. Fortunately, Messiah has numerous resources to support instructors and students in cutting through the clutter and improving writing. In this workshop we will discuss those supports as well as resources that can be applied to a wide array of writing assignments. Open Science (OS) seeks to apply the concept of openness across all stages of research practice. It aims to facilitate the dissemination of research at speed and to foster collaboration between researchers (Foster Open Science, 2023). OS is an essential aspect of Responsible Research Practice (ALLEA, 2017) and integral to addressing the complex problems facing the world (UNESCO, 2021). It is thus imperative that research performing organisations provide effective OS training. Research data services (RDS) are growing rapidly in libraries. To better understand the current state of RDS across R1 and R2 institutions, how they've evolved since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and who is providing these services, this research project built an interoperable Library Data Services (LIDS) dataset to inform RDS development and assessment. The dataset records data service area(s) (e.g., Research Data Management), fifteen data service types (e.g., data management/data curation), and personnel and unit information gathered through website content analyses, alongside Carnegie Classification data.
