Working with cases involving crimes against children requires individuals to be directly and indirectly exposed to graphic material including images, videos, and statements made by child victims. Exposure to traumatic events can have a profound and lasting effect on everyone who is directly and indirectly involved. Because of this, helping professionals who have extended exposure to traumatized populations are more susceptible to psychological distress. Through an exhaustive review of the literature, this paper identifies the prevalence of compassion fatigue, burnout, compassion satisfaction among forensic interviewers and professionals working with cases involving crimes against children.
