Parenting approaches have a huge influence on communities in this day and age. Everyone falls into a group of individual communication styles and parenting influences where they land. Parenting styles have been studied thoroughly in the past and in multiple contexts. This study aims to determine if there is a correlation between parenting styles and people’s individual communication style. Authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved parenting styles encapsulated the range of styles most parents use. There are many perspectives to look at when trying to identify delinquency in adolescents. The researchers chose to look through the lens of family structure and influences to understand one perspective as to how family plays a role in adolescent behavior. The purpose of the research was to learn the ways in which family structure, parental involvement, and social influence affect an adolescent’s behavior in life as it related to delinquency. Traditional first-year university students are experiencing one of life’s greatest transitions. For many students, they are learning how to live independently for the first time, navigate relationships and support, and deal with new experiences that happen in college. Since traditional first-year students are not considered developmentally as adults, this study sought to determine how parental communication can influence how students feel during this time of transition of both college and emerging adulthood.
