Of ‘Cut-Off’ Dates And Domination: Some Problematic Aspects Of The General Reception Of English Law In Singapore, Andrew B.L. Phang
Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law
This article deals with some problematic aspects of the general reception of English law in Singapore. It examines, first, the concept of the 'cut-off' date for statutes and the common law. The second substantive part deals with the concepts of suitability and modification, analysing their theoretical cogency as well as their application in the local context. The third and final part of the article examines the relationship between reception and stare decisis, indicating and examining potential contradictions as well as other allied issues.

Decreasing Allied Support For Anti-Soviet Strategic Embargoes A Demonstration Of The Declining Hegemony Of The United States, Tracey A. Johnstone
Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations
This thesis evaluates the declining hegemony of the United States over its allies since the end of World War II. Robert Gilpin and Robert Keohane's theories about the decline in U.S. hegemony are discussed as are the hegemonic theories of Gramsci as interpreted by Robert Cox. The three progressively hostile reactions of U.S. allies to U.S.-initiated embargoes against the Eastern Bloc are used to illustrate the decreasing control of the United States over the economic and strategic policies of its allies. The conclusion states' that Ronald Reagan ignored historical trends and contemporary international politics when he decided to force U.S. …

Dissidence Within The Soviet Bloc : The Case Of Romania, Emil Craciun
Dissidence Within The Soviet Bloc : The Case Of Romania, Emil Craciun
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study examines why Romania's dissidence within the Soviet bloc has not provoked a military response from the Soviet Union during the 1965-1985 period. The hypothesis assumed is that Soviet tolerance is granted to Romania in exchange for its internal orthodoxy.
Based on English and Romanian sources of information and on the author's experience having lived in Romania, the following factors are analyzed: Party internal control, its organization, leadership and ideology.
The study concludes that Romania's internal orthodoxy, closely resembling Soviet society, has neutralized the country's dissident foreign policy saving it from a Soviet military intervention.

Egypt And The Soviet Union, 1953-1970, John W. Copp
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze in detail the many aspects of the Soviet-Egyptian friendship as it developed from 1953 to 1970. The relationship between the two is extremely important because it provides insight into the roles of both Egypt and the Soviet Union in both the history of the Middle East and in world politics. The period from 1953 to 1970 is key in understanding the relationship between the two states because it is the period of the genesis of the relationship and a period in which both nations went through marked changes in both …

This is a three part samizdat from Moscow by an anonymous author. The circumstances under which the samizdat was obtained were quite interesting. Several years ago an American professor was approached by a Moscovite in a subway station. Not speaking any Russian he was unable to understand what the man was saying to him. As the subway train approached the Soviet stuck some crumpled paper into the American's pocket and disappeared. The professor did not realize until later that there was a developed negative of a film inside the paper. The negatives contained photos of many typed pages which, however, …
