Waqf is one of the potential financial instruments in Islamic economics. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has responded positively to developments in the waqf model, especially productive waqf. The waqf potential predicted in 2024 will reach 71.8 trillion, while the realization of waqf is only 199 billion. This means that there is a gap of up to 71.6 trillion between the waqf potential and its realization. To be a winner in the electoral political contestation, the regional head candidates must have a strong political power. Thispolitical power could become from a variety of political machines, including boarding institutions (pesantren) which have a social network in the community.
