This assignment was developed for students in HSF 090- Health Sciences who attend a 1-hour library session. The focus of this session and assignment is “research as inquiry.”

Research is iterative and depends upon asking increasingly complex or new questions whose answers in turn develop additional questions or lines of inquiry in any field. Students will practice this iterative process by experimenting with the trial and error necessary in the research process as they repeat and refine their searches. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between undergraduate student performance on an information literacy assessment activity and their performance in global learning assessment activities for three global learning outcomes: global awareness, global perspective, and global engagement.

Global learning is the process whereby people from varied backgrounds collaboratively analyze and seek solutions for complex problems that go beyond borders. Faculty and Librarians are two distinct professional groups each with their own subcultures, values and experiences. Hardesty (1995) noted the existence of a "faculty culture" amongst faculty members, which quite likely shapes and influences the way these individuals perceive a highly subjective concept such as Information Literacy (IL). Faculty and Librarians in higher education institutions often work together in the development of IL Programs. Faculty Perception Of Information Literacy At Queensborough Community College, Leslie Ward, Miseon Kim

This study examines how faculty perceived information literacy classes provided by Queensborough Community College. A survey was distributed in the spring of 2017 via faculty e-mail. The survey focused on the faculty’s department affiliation, usage of information literacy (IL) instruction, and how they value the IL instruction. The results revealed that the highest proportion of faculty members who brought their students to the library and found it the most useful were the English and the Speech department, while faculty in the STEM fields were least likely to utilize the library instruction because they found it was irrelevant to their courses.

DIT Library Aungier St. are using Mailchimp to engage first-year undergraduates with their Information Literacy (IL) programme and also to market and promote Library staff and services. Library staff have developed Library Learning which consists of 10 scheduled, tailored and branded mailouts sent throughout the first academic year. Mailouts are authored by library staff in collaboration with academic staff, the academic calendar, and course content. Student supports such as the Academic Writing Centre are also promoted. A Survey Of Information Literacy (Il) Programmes In Technical University (Tu) Libraries In Ghana, Baffour Ohene Agyekum Mr, Kwabena Ntiamoah-Sarpong Mr, Beatrice Arthur Ms

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

A quantitative study of the libraries of 7 Technical Universities (TUs) of Ghana was conducted to evaluate information literacy programmes at such universities in Ghana. The study employed a descriptive survey research strategy. A sample of 7 librarians out of the 8 TU libraries in Ghana was collected using purposive sampling. A questionnaire served as the instrument to collect data relating to the objectives of the study. The study gathered mostly quantitative data which were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings showed that the majority of the examined libraries included information literacy classes as part …
