Fanning The Embers Of Discrimination At Work: Does Reward Structure Fuel Incivility?, Sam Allen

In recent years, there has been an uptick in public awareness of systemic and structural inequities within the workplace. Organizational reward structures (i.e., performance-based and seniority-based) act as incentives for employees' contributions toward organizational goals, but could also motivate employees' drive for gaining or maintaining social status by undermining other employees, particularly targeting people with minority status. The proposed research will study the relationship between reward structures and the perpetration of incivility by accounting for perpetrators' social dominance orientation (SDO), their motivations to protect the status quo (MPSQ), and the presence of minority race targets. The Impact Of Need For Cognition On Primacy And Regency Effects In The Employment Interview, Amy Marie Lawton

The order of interview questions during the interview may influence candidate ratings, giving an unfair advantage to some candidates. This study was done to test the effect of the interviewer's need for cogniton, the desire to use cognitive energy, on primacy and recency effects during the employment interview. A transcript of competency-based behavior description interivew questions was given to nearly 300 participants. Evidence was found for recency effects only, and no significant differences were found that could be attributed to the interviewer's need for cognition.

The present study examined how the origin of an applicant's disability, the status of the job he/she was applying for and the level of test accommodation provided, influenced a participant's perception of what was a reasonable pre-employment testing accommodation. Additionally, how attributes of organizationsal members, such as age, education level and knowledge of ADA law influenced reasonableness of accommodation were examined.
